buck and eddie are ❌NOT❌ golfers, they're the least golfy men i have ever laid eyes upon - this is an issue i am incredibly passionate about and have been since 6x17 love is in the air, do not try to change my mind, it won't work. however, there is a way they could fix both of these issues in one fell swoop. so. buck goes golfing with gerard as part of the 118's meticulously hatched plan to get him not only out of their station but the lafd for good. buck is the obvious candidate, he's a cis white man who, in gerard's head, is half straight and that's all they've really got to work with. the problem? buck is truly and terrifically terrible at golf. clearly he'll need some tutoring in order for their plan to work. and buck's like "hey, eddie, you golf right?" so cut to the driving range, a cheesy sports film montage of eddie demonstrating how to swing and buck failing miserably, he looks a little flushed and maybe a bit distracted - wonder what that's about. anyway, sun begins to fade, we're going real campy humour, we break out of the montage and eddie goes to get another basketful of balls for buck to hit. he watches buck practice his swing and shakes his head. "alright, cowboy, this clearly isn't working". no shit. "maybe you should just go instead, show up with your half swedish side". eddie's not giving up though. he gets a little flushed and awkward and shuffles up to buck, scratching at the back of his neck. "it, uh, might be, um, easier? if i could... could i, you know, put my arms around you?" buck's mouth drops open in a little o, he doesn't say anything as he turns pink as the sunset behind them. "sorry, i made it weird, didn't i? forget-" "NO!" buck winces a little at his outburst. "i mean, uh, no, y-you didn't make it weird, that might actually work" so with the face of a man about to be sent off to war, eddie positions himself behind buck and wraps his arms around him, adjusts his grip on the club and leads buck through the motions of a good swing. everything's suddenly very tense and taut. they hit the ball, it's worse than any of buck's previous hits. it lands in the netting and only just rolls over the edge. there's an "ow - what the hell" from below. they freeze, buck begins to shake with silent laughter, eddie cracks slowly, then they're both giggling, trying and failing to muffle it, eddie buries his face in buck's shoulder and laughs, buck suddenly goes quiet, but he's still smiling. "if i knew all i had to do to make you laugh was be piss poor at golf, i'd have tried this the day after chris-" "hey, at least you haven't broken my ankle yet" "it was just a sprain" buck mumbles, eddie grins. "let's try again" they swing together once more, the ball goes soaring. buck whoops and does a dorky little victory dance and eddie looks at him, bathed in the light of the sunset, and oh, he's the most beautiful thing eddie's ever seen. buck runs back over "eddie, we've gotta go again, c'mon, c'mon" eddie breaks out of his trance "yeah, gotta learn to do it by yourself. i don't think gerard would appreciate you showing up with me on your back like a koala" and scene.

E&T: Here We Go Again
Guess who’s back, baby!!!
←Previous - Masterlist - Next→
Ingredients: hella noncon touching (unsexy), dehumanization/objectification, “it” as a forced pronoun
I am a person. A human being. I have very normal arms and legs that are the same bronze color as the rest of me. My nails are all...nail colored. Clear? They’re not black. Because I’m a person. Erebus. I’m not...not a prince anymore, but I’m still me. Even if my eyes are white and my teeth are sharp and my tongue is black, I’m still a human inside. Not a monster.
Hesitantly, Erebus opened his eyes and looked down at his right arm. For the first time in over a month, it actually looked normal, and although something was still definitely off about it, he was more than happy with this for now. As long as he believed the person he was inside was still human, his arm wouldn’t look like it had been dipped in blood, which was something. When Neteri came in, he held it up excitedly.
“Neteri, look, I got it to change!”
She smiled broadly and clapped her hands together. “That’s wonderful, Erebus! Let me see.” She came over and gently took his arm, examining it all over, splaying out his fingers and looking at his nails, rubbing his skin, and rolling up his sleeve to expose the gnarled scar below his shoulder from the amputation. It was less jarring to look at now that his flesh wasn’t changing color around it. “Good, good,” she muttered to herself before looking back at him. “How did you do it?”
“I just, uh...thought about how...how I’m not a monster.”
Neteri smiled at him warmly. “That’s right, you’re not!” She petted the top of his head, and he resisted the urge to lean into it. “And the fact that you’re a person will be especially important for you to remember today.”
“Uh...why?”
Neteri nervously rubbed her hands together. “So...remember how I said I’d have to let Hjáll look at you again at some point in the future?”
“Is it some point in the future now?”
“Yeah. Like right now.” She pulled the leash out of her bag, and he leaned away from her. “Come on, Erebus. I’ll be right there with you the whole time, and I won’t let her do anything awful. It’ll just be...a lot of touching. But not everywhere. Just where I’ve done things to you. So you’ve already been touched there before, at least by me, though I guess-”
“Shut up, Neteri, I’ll go.” He sighed in defeat and got up, letting her attach the infernal thing to his neck once again.
Erebus tried as best he could to calm his nerves as they walked along. He wasn’t exactly excited about seeing Hjáll again, even though he knew it wouldn’t be nearly as bad as last time. He wouldn’t be alone with that woman since Neteri would be there to supervise, and he figured she wouldn’t let Hjáll hurt him, either. But he still really didn’t want her to touch him all over or talk about him like he was some sort of...beast, and that was going to happen no matter what. Hopefully...hopefully he wouldn’t be forced to wear that awful muzzle again, at the very least.
They arrived at a door, and once Neteri ushered him in, he froze at the sight of the room beyond. It was bare save for two posts with manacles dangling from them and a chain with a hook attached to it hanging from the ceiling. He’d figured he was going to be restrained for this, but he’d thought it would be a chair or the table or something where he’d be less...exposed. Still, he let Neteri lead him to stand between the posts, watching a moment as she swatted at the small hook hanging from the ceiling, still unable to reach it even on her tiptoes. Sighing, he reached up and grabbed it with ease. “What do you want with this?” She smiled and hesitantly held up the leash.
“Um, well, if you could just...attach this to that...no, not the end, do it so it’s, uh, tight-not too tight, I don’t want you to choke yourself, just so it’s hard for you to move...yeah. Wait, shoot.”
“What?”
“Could you, uh, take your shirt off?”
“Do I have t-”
“Yes.” Erebus sighed, reaching up to unhook the leash, but he stopped midway and just unclipped it from the front of his collar. After pulling his shirt off, he simply crossed his arms and looked down at Neteri, careful not to look at his chest. He was not putting the leash back on himself. She rolled her eyes and reattached it before gently taking his wrists and pulling them out to either side, chaining them to the pillars he was standing in between. He resisted the urge to squirm, clenching his fists as she secured his ankles as well. He felt so exposed like this, but he was completely helpless to cover any part of himself.
While waiting for Hjáll to show up, Neteri ducked under his arm and stood behind him, no doubt looking at his scarred back. Erebus shuddered as she traced a finger down his spine, but if she noticed his discomfort, she paid it no mind. He looked back at her as best he could with his collar and the chain attached to it in the way. “What...what are you doing?”
“Just...looking,” Neteri hummed, her fingers still tracing along lightly. “Your next procedure will be on your back.” He gulped, wondering if she was going to mess with his spine given how much attention she was paying it.
“What are you going to-”
“It’s a secret.”
“Of course it is,” he sighed, and Neteri laughed lightly in response. Her touch moved from his spine to the whip scars crisscrossing his back. He’d always tried not to dwell on them, and he’d honestly only really looked at them once, towards the beginning of his time here. There were a lot of things he wanted to forget about that day, and being whipped was one of them.
“I’m sorry I didn’t stop them sooner,” Neteri blurted. “Not that you should’ve been whipped at all, but the Emperor wanted you to be…” He felt her hand clench into a fist against his back. “To be honest, I mostly stopped them because...because I wanted you, and I didn’t want them to hurt you more than I could fix easily. Because they were damaging something that might be mine. But I shouldn't've-”
Neteri was cut off by the door opening and Hjáll walking in, who immediately regarded Erebus with suspicion. “I thought I told you to put a muzzle on it, Neteri.” Neteri, who had come back in front of Erebus, simply crossed her arms.
“And I told you that two of the procedures were inside of his mouth, so I don’t know how you’d be able to conduct a proper examination if you couldn’t see half of what I’ve done. Besides, he can’t bite you unless you put your hands near his mouth. Not that he’ll bite you at all,” she looked up at Erebus, eyes narrowed, “right, Erebus?”
He rolled his eyes, not that either of them could tell since he didn’t have pupils anymore. “Yeah, I won’t bite.” He honestly had been considering biting Hjáll if she put her hand in his mouth, but he’d play nice since Neteri asked and would therefore probably punish him if he disobeyed. She might also just laugh about it after, but he didn’t want to risk making his situation any worse.
“See? He’s a good boy. So, let’s get started.” Neteri pulled on her gloves. “I’m sure you’ve noticed his fangs by now.” She reached up into his mouth, her finger pressing against the back of one of them. “I went with relatively short ones so they wouldn’t affect his speech and salivation too greatly, but they’re still quite sharp.”
“They’re the pride component, are they not?” Hjáll asked as she tentatively reached her own gloved finger into his mouth. Erebus opened wider and looked firmly at the corner, already very much not enjoying this. And he was certain the objectification was only just beginning.
After they finished talking about his teeth, they moved to his tongue. Neteri gently pulled it out of his mouth, something that never failed to give him flashbacks to when she’d cut off his human one. She seemed to be able to tell, giving him a reassuring pat before beginning to speak. “This was the first procedure I did, and it’s the gluttony component.”
“Huh. The shape’s so different that I can really only tell that from the color. Oh, I suppose it has the ridges as well.”
“Yeah, I had to modify the shape a bit before putting it in. I wanted him to be able to speak without much issue.”
“I still don’t understand why you want it to talk.”
“Erebus is very helpful!” Neteri let go of his tongue, and he quickly pulled it back in and shut his mouth, deciding to just not get involved in this particular conversation. “He tells me a lot of things I wouldn’t have been able to pick up on through observation alone. Thanks to him, I have a really good understanding on how all the procedures have affected him and how the demon components operate. Besides,” she smiled up at him, “I like talkin’ to him.”
Hjáll raised an eyebrow. “I hope this...attachment to your subject isn’t interfering with your work, Neteri.”
“It isn’t! Everything has proceeded as planned so far, and you know I’m good at putting aside my personal feelings”
“Still...this is why I recommend you just break it. It will make this all that much easier for you. If you’d just put it in my care for a few weeks,” she grabbed Erebus’s chin, looking him right in the eye, “I’d shatter it into perfect, empty compliance. No personality left to get attached to.”
“If I wanted him broken and compliant I already would have done it,” Neteri said coldly as she swatted Hjáll’s hand away from Erebus. “And I have plans in place in case he gives me reason to change my mind.” Erebus shuddered at that, gripping the chains tightly in his fists. What...what would Neteri do to him if she wanted to...to break him? He’d seen that same look in her eyes when she’d threatened to vivisect him if he tried to run, so he could only imagine what other awful things like that she might do to him...it made him more determined than ever to just suck up what little pride he had left and behave.
They moved to his eyes next, both of them now touching his face far too much for his comfort. He resumed staring at the corner, trying very hard not to focus on how close Hjáll’s face was to his since she wasn’t that much shorter than him.
“He’s immune to visually activated petrification now, and he can see pretty well in the dark and underwater, despite the modifications I made to adjust them for surface conditions. It’s likely he can’t see in the dark as well as he’d be able to if I hadn’t done that, but that’s not really a big deal. You can’t really tell where he’s looking, though, watch. Look at me, Erebus.” He did so, and she nodded. “If he did it, I can’t tell. Look at Hjáll now.” Begrudgingly, he complied. Her thin eyes were a piercing green, and he would’ve found them rather pretty if they belonged to anyone but her. She smiled.
“I can tell it’s looking at me from how red its face is getting. So shy,” she crooned, trailing a finger down his bare chest. The chains held him in place, rendering him powerless to swat her away or even step back, so he just glared at her, trying his best to hide his discomfort. She chuckled, her touch moving to his right arm. “I see progress has been made with this arm. It was still red last time I examined your subject.”
“Yes, that was actually a pretty recent breakthrough! We discovered it’s related to how he perceives himself, but we’ll need to work with it further to fully understand how it operates.” Hjáll narrowed her eyes as she examined his now human-looking arm.
“So you’re saying it perceives itself as human?”
Neteri’s gazes hardened. “Yes, Hjáll, Erebus is a human being. Unlike you, I don’t experiment with my subject’s souls.” She sighed. “Are you satisfied with your examination?”
“I suppose. I did enjoy the chance to get a good look at it without all the...problems it posed last time.” She leaned towards him, placing a hand on his chest again. “Though I must say, it’d be so much more fun to have your little monster all to myself.”
“Erebus is not a monster, and he is mine,” Neteri growled, worming her way between him and Hjáll. “He always will be.” He felt his stomach drop at that; Neteri’s extreme possessiveness of him was one thing he could never get used to.
“Maybe someday you’ll change your mind. Until next time, then.” Both of them visibly relaxed once she was gone. Neteri started freeing Erebus from the restraints, giving him a concerned look.
“You okay? You were kinda quiet.”
“I’m...I’m fine. I just...didn’t have anything I really wanted to say. Anything that wouldn’t have made her slap me again, anyway.” He rubbed his sore wrists as she crouched to free his ankles.
“Did she slap you the first time?”
“Yeah. For ‘talking back’.”
“Oh, sun forbid test subjects be people.” Erebus opened his mouth to object, but then closed it. He, Neteri, and Hjáll all had very different opinions on that statement, and all of them were set in their beliefs enough that there wasn’t much use arguing. It was sort of funny that he and Hjáll both disagreed with that particular sentence, but for wildly different reasons. And while they were still in the subject of her...
“Neteri...is there any, um...is there any way Hjáll could…could actually...get me?” She finished unchaining his ankles and stood, looking up at him as she slowly shook her head.
“I don’t think so. You’re legally my property, despite…” she ran her finger down the center of his brand. “I can’t think of why she’d have any claim to you. I suppose possession of you would revert to the state if something were to happen to me, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’d become hers. But don’t worry,” she cupped his cheek in her hand, “I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. And while I’m still here, I promise I’ll never hand you over to her. Unless you wanted me to for some bizarre reason.”
He shook his head. “I’d sooner ask for you to parade me around the streets of Nathar on the leash. But...thanks.” She nodded, and after he’d gotten his shirt back on, they returned to his cell.
“Now, I’ve got one more thing on the agenda for you today,” Neteri muttered as she dug around in her bag. Erebus watched her warily, hoping it wasn’t anything painful. “Are you going to sit still for this?” she asked as she pulled out a pair of shears. The same shears that she’d used to... Erebus flinched, his hands instinctively moving to cover his mouth.
“Um, you’re not-”
“No, no, not your tongue, silly. Your hair’s just gotten long.” Erebus lowered his arms, momentary panic starting to subside. His hair. Right. She had mentioned something about it the other day. He ran a hand through it.
“Oh. I mean, it really...hasn’t. Do I have to keep it short?”
Neteri nodded. “Long hair gets in the way, especially with some of the stuff I have planned.”
“Stuff like what?”
“Stuff...involving the back of your neck. And the sides of your head.”
“The sides of my…” he clamped his hands on either side of his head, right above his ears. “Are you going to give me horns?!” Neteri smiled suspiciously and shrugged.
“Perhaps.” His hands twisted in his hair as a low whine emitted from his throat. “You’ll be fine, Erebus, I can get rid of them once the experiment is over. They won’t be that big. And you can grow your hair out again when this is over if you want to, I don’t really care. So come on, are you gonna let me cut it?”
He sighed. “Fine.” She had him sit in one of the chairs, and he clenched his fists in his lap as she threw a towel over his shoulders. At least he wasn’t tied up this time.
Neteri’s hand slid under his chin, gently tilting it up until he was staring straight ahead instead of at the floor. “Keep your chin up for me, okay?” She ran her hand through his hair, humming slightly. “Mmm, it’s always so silky.”
Erebus wished something as simple as having his hair cut didn’t bring him close to tears. But the last time this happened, the last time she did this to him...it had been one of the worst days of his life. And it was just another reminder that he wasn’t in control of his body at all. He bit his lip as he watched the little black clippings flutter to the ground, careful not to tilt his head. Actually...maybe this was for the best. Prince Erebus had been beautiful, with blue eyes and long hair and a smile that wouldn’t make people scream and run. But that wasn’t who he was anymore. The body he had now, the monster, had empty white eyes and horrific scars and fangs and eventually horns and that was him now, that was who he was, so maybe having short hair would help him remember that, to keep them separate.
“Okay, perfect.” Neteri ruffled his hair before coming around in front of him, tilting his chin to admire her work. “Yeah, you look super cute! Or cool or whatever you want to be. It suits you.”
“Thanks,” Erebus muttered as he got up to go look for himself while Neteri cleaned up. She’d cut it short, shorter than she had the first time, especially in the sides and back, but he understood why. And he supposed it did look good, even if he didn’t look like his old self one bit, but, honestly...that was okay. It made it easier for him to believe that that was someone else, just a nameless monster staring back at him with those blank white eyes. Prin-no, he was never going to be that again, ever Erebus was just going away for a while, but he’d see his own face again someday. But for now, he’d inhabit the body of the monster.
And until he was actually himself again, until he looked as human as he was inside because he was human, he was, he was okay with keeping his hair short.

Jotaro beats the shit out of your boss 🥺🥺🥺
sorry this took so long lol
jotaro x reader (?), probably between parts 3 and 4, 1.1k
"This guy bothering you?" asks Jotaro, eyes flashing. He looks about ready to kill a man, which works out for you, honestly, because you have a man in desperate need of a gruesome end.
Your boss smirks that awful smirk of his and says, "No, we're all good here."
"I wasn't talking to you," Jotaro says bluntly. "I was talking to this one." He gestures toward you, and you feel yourself blush ever so slightly. Truth be told, he's never given you the time of day before this, despite your best efforts. You're not even sure if he knows your name. It's nice to have him acknowledge your existence after weeks of you subtly making goo-goo eyes at him. "This guy bothering you?"
Uh oh, you think, watching as your boss's face starts to get red and splotchy like it does before he blows his lid. He's going to kill Jotaro.
Jotaro could probably defend himself, if it came down to it, but you would still prefer things didn't escalate. It would be nice to see your boss get his stupid face beat in, though. That might rule, actually. The more you think about it, the more you kind of want it to escalate, because Jotaro would almost definitely kick your boss's ass, and that would fucking shred.
"How dare you speak to me like that!" shrieks your boss, obnoxious and ear-piercing as ever. "Get the hell out of my restaurant!"
"This isn't a restaurant," Jotaro points out quite fairly, "it's a coffee shop. And no, I'm not leaving. I already paid. I just need my other drink. Leave your employee alone so I can get Jiji's nasty coffee and leave."
In your wisest move of the day, you say nothing, skirting around your boss and trying to finish Jotaro's order. Professional legend over here.
Your boss, though, won't let it go, because of course he won't. He's a fucking moron and you hate his guts. "Absolutely not! I want you out of here right this instant or I'm calling the police! You hear me?! The police!"
"For what? I haven't done anything wrong. I didn't even curse at you. You can't just take my money like that."
"Out, out, out!" howls your boss, so angry that he grabs a bottle of liquid vanilla flavoring and hurls it at Jotaro, who lets it hit him right in the chest. You wonder why he doesn't dodge, because you know he can. You've seen him react almost instantaneously before, most notably when you nearly spilled hot coffee on his lap—he moved so fast it was like he teleported. Why not get out of the way?
The answer is this: Jotaro is now allowed to snap. Having been hit with something, having been attacked, having been assaulted, legally speaking, he's not the one who escalated. Now it's self-defense. Now he's free to beat ass. "You wanna take this outside? Fine." And with that he leans forward, grabs your boss by the collar of his idiotic polo shirt, lifts the man over the counter, and drags him out the front door. The casual display of strength makes you a little hot under the collar.
You quickly finish Jotaro's second drink and grab both of them with your sweaty hands. As soon as they're safely cradled in a paper tray, you hurry outside under the guise of giving Jotaro his order, but you know full well you're really going to gleefully watch your boss get his ass kicked. It's gonna fucking rule.
Outside, Jotaro and your boss are standing across from one another, both doing weird poses that look worryingly unstable. You wonder if a freak gust of wind would be enough to knock one of them off balance—with the way your boss's knees are positioned, you're almost sure it would be. How is that even anatomically possible? And don't even get me started on Jotaro, who's leaning back like the goddamn Tower of Pisa and pointing like he's Phoenix fucking Wright. Are you an insane people magnet? You thought Jotaro was normal, for Christ's sake, but now he's just yelling in the street and doing some kind of elaborate LARPing.
When you came out here, you expected to see someone getting punched. You did not expect to see two grown men just stand and scream, flailing wildly as if they're dodging imaginary punches. Maybe you should go back in and empty the tip jar while your boss is otherwise occupied.
Then, it happens. "Fuck this," says Jotaro, before rearing back and punching your boss square in the face. Something cracks. The sound echoes.
Your boss howls with pain and you can't keep the grin off your face, glad to see the man who's treated you like shit for so long finally get what he deserves. You're not sure why Jotaro got involved at all, but you're so, so glad he did. ...Hopefully this won't have repercussions for you.
Crumbling into a broken heap on the ground, your boss says nothing more. He's not dead or anything, though, just injured and embarrassed.
Jotaro says his catchphrase and rolls his shoulders before walking over to you, one hand in his pocket. "Those mine?"
You nod, handing over the paper tray, face burning. You've never had someone stand up for you like that before. Standing there, looking up at Jotaro, you're overcome with the need to say something, anything, to express your gratitude. "Thank you," you say emphatically, though it doesn't feel like enough.
"Whatever," says Jotaro, not even looking at you. He takes the drink and turns on his heel to presumably walk away.
"Wait!" He stops. He turns. He looks at you, eyes narrowed. "Um. Seriously. I owe you one for standing up for me like that." Okay. Time to shoot your shot. The worst he can do is say no, right? You'll probably survive a rejection. "Can I make it up to you with coffee sometime? Or maybe dinner?"
He looks at you like you're the dumbest person alive. "You think I did that for you? I just wanted my stupid drinks."
"Oh, but I thought…"
"You thought wrong. I wanted my shitty drinks and your ultra-capitalist boss was getting in the way of that. If there was another barista there, I would've asked them to make it, since I'm sick of you making that nasty face at me, but you were the only one there."
So he did notice the goo-goo eyes. "But—"
"Yare yare daze." And with that, you feel yourself lifted off the ground, but Jotaro's not touching you. Before you can get even a single word out, you're flying through the air, landing with a splat in a nearby canal.
Wait, what the fuck?! There are no canals around here! There should be an Ulta here! Where did this canal come from?! How did you end up here, is Jotaro fucking telekinetic?! And WHAT IS THAT BITING YOUR ANKLE—?!

Finding Home (merman!Elliott x gn!reader)
A/N: Me and a friend, @hideyoosh, worked on this stardew valley reader insert fic together. There should be more chapters in the future hopefully.
-------
The tree branches sway as the fallen leaves are carried in the gentle wind.
Today was a perfect day for fishing. You had been so caught up in tending to your autumn crops that you hadn't taken the time to focus on your hobbies. It wasn’t like you didn't enjoy farming though, it was just nice to take a break every once in a while.
Unfortunately, the lake in the forest south of your farm seemed to be quiet today. Nothing was biting, even with the bait you had hooked on. This was extremely peculiar since every time you came here multiple fish would bite throughout the day. You'd even throw some back. But now it was well into the afternoon and you hadn't caught a single thing.
You sigh and lean back in your seat you placed on the dock. Good thing you brought one with you.
While you contemplate whether you should call it day or not, your rod jerks forward. You finally had hooked something!
You scramble to try to reel it in hoping, praying, that it wasn't trash that got caught. However you cross that off quickly. Whatever you had at the end of the line was fighting back hard.
You put up your best fight, set on making this fish yours and it seems like neither of you will let up. But then your line suddenly snaps.
The release of tension sends you and your chair falling backwards. Your mouth gawks at the destroyed line on your iridium fishing rod. This wasn’t any cheap rod either. In fact, it was brand new!
What could have been strong enough to do this?
You pout at the loss of an incredible catch and your line that you would now have to fix.
"Dammit…"
Suddenly, you hear splashing from the lake and look up to see a man in the water not too far away from you. You had never seen this man in town before so you're immediately alarmed.
How long had he even been in the water?
"I’m sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!" he called out.
Your mouth hangs open and you’re at a loss for words.
The man had long ginger hair, and deep green eyes. Along with his defined cheekbones and sharp jawline, he might as well be physically flawless. Part of you couldn't believe he was even human.
He holds out your hook, the broken off piece of your line hanging from it, and begins making his way closer to the dock.
"I apologize for breaking it, but I couldn't get it out otherwise so…."
You finally manage to somewhat collect yourself back onto your chair and try to make sense of what was happening. Surely you would have noticed someone out in the lake before you cast out your line, so how did he get hooked?
He stares at you, and you stare right back. His gaze was warm and honest, almost naive.
Breaking the momentary silence, you utter a very eloquent, "What?"
"This hook. I believe it belongs to you seeing as we’re the only ones here. Thought I would return it since my arm has no better use for it."
You give a breathy laugh and reach for the outstretched hook. “Yeah I suppose you’ve got a good point there. Thanks.”
You take the hook from his hand, your fingers just brushing up against his. The small bit of contact has your face heating up unexpectedly and you look away.
What's wrong with you?Just an ounce of human contact and you're on fire! Touch starved much?
The other equally reasonable part of you argues otherwise though.
The man is a living, breathing deity of grace and beauty! Anyone with eyes can argue that. How am I still conscious?
And somehow you agree with both.
Once you take the hook, you notice the blood on his left arm.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to hook you. I’d be a sorry excuse for a fisherman if I could only fish men."
He offers a short laugh and replies, "That's quite alright. You were just trying to catch a meal.”
Oh, I caught a meal alright...
“I assure you it appears much more garish than it actually is." He pokes around the wound to demonstrate no reaction. “See?”
"Please, it's my fault you’re hurt so I can at least help you clean the wound. My farm’s not too far, I’ll grab a first aid kit and be back.”
You get up from your chair quickly and give him no time to argue. If you were fast enough you could be back within an hour, so you half-sprint the trip back to your farm.
As you look through your medicine cabinet for anything else you might need, you remember the times you hurt yourself with fishing hooks. Sure, they can be annoying to deal with, but that’s really all. You can't really say much for experiencing getting hooked and reeled though.
Catching yourself zoning out, you quickly gather what you need before heading to the dock once more.
You run down the old wooden planks to your chair and pole, but you don’t find the injured stranger there with them.
Confused, you look around in the distance to see if he got out of the water somewhere. As soon as you turn to look behind yourself, you feel something grip your ankle. You shriek and frantically try to kick it off.
WHAT THE F-”
"Shh! Please don’t scream! It’s me!"
Your ankle is released and you fall backwards onto the dock. Again. You scoot closer to the edge and meet an apologetic gaze. The man was still in the water after all. You give a sigh of utter relief.
“I’m so glad it’s you and not a murderous mythical fish monster...Where did you go?”
“I was diving a bit while you were gone. I’m sorry. It was ill mannered of me to grab you so suddenly,” he said earnestly.
Part of you wonders why he didn't just call out to you but you shrug.
“All is forgiven.”
You place a towel and first aid kit on your fish cooler and motion to the chair next to it.
"Can you get out of the water for me? You can sit on this seat so I can clean you up."
"Um…"
"What’s up?"
He visibly tenses at the question and musters out, "I just don't think I can get up into that seat."
He moves closer to the pier and places his hands on the worn wood before trying to lift himself up and falling back in the water.
“Not a problem man! I’ll help you up.”
“Wait!”
You take a good grip on his arm, muster all the strength you used trying to reel him in the first time, and heave him onto the dock. Your eyes widen when you see that his bottom half isn't human at all. His hips were completely covered in burgundy scales and as he sits himself on the edge of the pier, you realize that his lower body tapers off into a giant tail.
For the second time today you find yourself struggling to find words.
The man--no merman realizes your shock and gives an empty chuckle. "I've scared you again…"
Immediately, you blink and shake your head. "I--I'm just a little surprised, but not scared. You’d be surprised yourself that this doesn’t even top the list!"
Supernatural beings in this town aren’t exactly few and far between, are they?
“Anyways, tail or not, your arm still needs attention. Lift it up for me?”
The man gapes back at you but does as you say. It seems he’s the one left speechless this time.
You grab the disinfectant spray off the cooler and move the bandages to the seat before approaching him.
"This might sting a little."
You spray where the hook had got him and you realize that the gash goes down further than you thought originally. It begins near his shoulder and fades out around the middle of his bicep due to you trying to reel him in. The guilt starts to set in pretty fast as you inspect the wound.
As you try to take your mind off the damage you caused you notice the merman seems lost in thought.
"What's your name?" you ask.
He seems surprised yet relieved by the break in the silence. He slips into a relaxed and elegant smile and says, “Elliott. Might I ask you yours?"
"I’m ____, but most people just call me the farmer around here."
"Then it's very nice to meet you, farmer."
You grab the bandages but then remember that the Elliott would eventually have to go back in the water. So you fiddle with the packaged roll in your hands instead.
"Well, I think I'm done. I can't wrap the wound cause it would be bad if the bandages got wet. Will you be okay?"
"You needn’t worry! It will heal in no time at all and even more so since you helped me." He gives you a very charming smile and you can't help returning it.
He’s really different from everyone else in town, you think to yourself, and not just because of the whole merman situation. Elliott had a mature and sophisticated manner of speaking which was a welcome change of pace. And speaking with him was effortless as it was enchanting. You hoped it wouldn’t be the last time.
"Do you live here?"
The merman frowns slightly before shaking his head. "Unfortunately, I appear to be stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of my home.”
"Oh, are you lost?"
"Not necessarily. I ended up here because I had nowhere else to go. The humans in blue along the coast have closed off any underwater entrance back into the ocean from here."
You tilt your head wondering what he means before it hits you.
Joja.
"The dam--They must have shut it off completely. But they said that they wouldn't!"
Your brow furrows as you try to figure out how this happened. Earlier in the year, Joja had finished the construction of their dam running along the outlet of the river bank to the sea. All you knew about it was bits of information you overheard in the saloon, really, and that helped you remember two things. That the dam was unfortunately an energy powerhouse in Stardew Valley and Joja was only allowed to build the dam under the condition that they could not mess with the river bank’s environment.
Cutting off the sea from the river is a huge interjection! They couldn't even do it without the proper authorization! What could they possibly be hoping to gain from a severed connection between the river and ocean?
Your thoughts come to a halt when you see Elliott giving you a concerned look. The last thing you want to do is give him more reason to worry, so instead you inhale deeply and do your best to comfort him.
"I'm sorry that happened to you. I wish I could help you get back."
He smiles weakly, "Your kindness and concern are enough."
The sentiment was nice but you shake your head. "No, I'm going to help you get back home. I've just decided."
The merman's eyes widen. "But how?"
"...That is a good question." You think for a moment but nothing is really coming to mind.
"I don't know yet but I'm sure we can come up with something eventually!"
Fortunately, that's enough to raise Elliott's spirits. "Perhaps you're right. They do say two heads are better than one."
You smile, but maybe you need to recruit some assistance though.

ahhh I'm so excited for the whump bingo series! can you do pidge in either 'caught in a snare' or in 'clawing at own throat'? ^^
This one...fought with me. I knew right away what kind of trap I wanted to use once I saw it online, but I had a hard time figuring out what scenario exactly to use that made sense and wouldn’t be too long or too short. But here it is, I finished it, and I hope it’s to your liking, Anon!

Prompt: Caught in a Snare
Fandom: Voltron: Legendary Defender
Warnings: near drowning, death mention
.
.
“I hate the outdoors.”
“Yeah,” Lance replies drily. “You mentioned that. A few times.”
Growling, Pidge kicks at a piece of rotting wood in her path. “It’s getting more and more true by the minute.”
The trek continues in silence for a minute, though she hardly notices the lack of conversation for all the rustling and tweeting and whatever other disgusting natural noises are going on around them and all of the furious thoughts pouring through her head. That is, until Lance decides to speak up again and say,
“You know you’re supposed to be like, the Guardian of Nature, right?”
“Shut up, Lance, I literally never asked for that title!” she hisses, narrowing her eyes at him briefly before returning her gaze to the path. Her luck, she’d end up tripping over something. “I mean don’t get me wrong, I love Green, but I’m much more into the curiosity and technology part, not the nature part.”
Silence again. “For what it’s worth,” he offers after a minute, “I’m not enjoying the situation, either.”
She rolls her eyes. “I’d be concerned if you were.” After all, when the two of them had agreed to come here to look for some rare fruit Allura and Coran wanted to trade with another potential Coalition planet, having all of their electronic devices - including Green - fail them so that they had to hike through the freakin’ jungle was not exactly part of the plan.
Her head and ribs still hurt from the rough landing. Nothing broken, thankfully, but she’s pretty sure she’s got some nice looking bruises. So, sue her if she’s a little grumpy. She feels she has the right.
And what jungle is cold, anyway? Not cold enough that she needs to keep her helmet sealed, but much colder than a jungle should be.
Space is so weird.
“Hey, I think I hear water over there.” Lance points somewhere to their right, through the endless trees. “If it’s a river or a creek we should try following it.”
Sighing, Pidge nods. It’s a good idea, and she’s not sure she would have thought of it. Wilderness survival isn’t really her forte. “Yeah, okay. Maybe luck will be on our side for once today and we can get a drink, too. I’ve still got that tester thing Coran gave me to see if it’s safe.”
“A drink sounds amazing right about now.”
There is a river, a rather large one at that, and it doesn’t take them long to find it. The vibrant turquoise color is a little off-putting, as is the steep embankment, but Pidge is determined to test it anyway and try to get them that drink they’re both craving.
“Over here, I see a path down.” She heads out in front of Lance, picking her way through the underbrush to a spot where it’s slightly less overgrown. Likely either animals or locals have been using the spot to get their own drinks from the river.
“Don’t fall!” Lance calls good-naturedly from a few yards behind.
Pidge is just about to throw a snarky response over her shoulder when something latches onto her ankle and her feet are suddenly yanked out from underneath her. Her already sore body slams backwards onto the ground. Vaguely she can hear Lance cackling at her, but she doesn’t have time to focus on it.
There’s some kind of twine wrapped around her ankle, and there’s a boulder tumbling down the embankment next to her toward the water, and somehow the two are connected and she’s being dragged swiftly down the hill with them.
It all happens in a matter of seconds. She throws her hands out, grasping at plants and roots and anything else she can find, but all she ends up with is a fistful of purple leaves and a ripped glove.
Right before she reaches the water Lance’s laughter turns into yelling. Then the boulder hits the surface with a loud splash, and she follows right behind it. It’s like being plunged into an ice bath. Automatically her mouth opens to gasp from the cold, but she stops herself just short of actually inhaling.
The river is deeper than it looked from above. The rock is still sinking, and it’s still pulling her with it. Down, down, where the water becomes less turquoise and more murky grey. Pidge fights against it, tries to swim upward, back to the surface, but the rock is far heavier than she is. Even when she kicks on her jet pack, it just sputters and barely halts the downward progress. There’s no way she’s going to be able to tug the rock back up with her.
Looking down, she can just barely see the twine where it wraps around her ankle and disappears into the darkness. If she can’t swim back up with that attached, then obviously she’s going to have to get rid of it.
Her lungs are already starting to ache.
Releasing a few bubbles, she bends over and pulls at the twine, but it’s so tight it would be cutting into her ankle if not for her armor. She can’t get even a fingernail underneath it.
A muted splash echoes through the water, and she lets a little bit more air out when she looks up to see Lance diving swiftly toward her. His eyes are wide behind his sealed faceplate. Pidge gives a pointed tug on the twine, and he nods, swimming with practiced ease down to her feet. Grabbing it with both hands, he attempts to break it, then moves up to her foot and finds out the same thing she did, it’s too tight to slip off.
There’s not much air left in her lungs, and most of what’s there slips past her lips without her permission. Her chest is beginning to burn.
Lance is making weird motions at her with his hands, but she’s having a hard time focusing on them past the black dots dancing in front of her eyes. Those are...probably not a good sign.
Finally he swims back up next to her, patting her hip as he leans in close to her ear. “Bayard!” she barely makes out.
Oh. Yeah. She’s gonna blame the lack of oxygen for not thinking of that herself.
She can barely see anymore, but she summons her bayard to her hand and attempts to lean down toward her foot. At this point she’s gonna be lucky if she doesn’t slice her leg off accidentally. But then Lance’s hands are wrapping around hers, and he’s guiding her downwards. Just before the black spots completely take over and her body goes limp, she feels the tension on her ankle release.
The next thing she’s aware of is lying on her side in a patch of dirt, coughing violently and spitting out gross river water while something slaps her on the back. She only realizes that the something is probably Lance’s hand when he leans over into her face.
“Oh, thank goodness! I thought I was gonna have to do rescue breaths and put my lips on your lips and I just -”
“Lance, please.” She coughs again, and wonders briefly if maybe she swallowed some seaweed or a fish or something because it feels like there’s one stuck in her chest somewhere. “I’m trying...not to throw up right now. I don’t...don’t need that visual.”
“Yeah. Same.” He falls back onto his butt, staring at her with traces of fear still on his face. “I would have done it, though, to, you know...save you. That, uh...really scared me. I barely got it cut before you passed out and the bayard went back to neutral and then you were like, dead...well, not actually dead, obviously, but you looked dead and then you weren’t breathing and I -”
“Lance.” Another cough, and a shiver racks her body. “Thank you.”
He screeches to a halt, then relaxes into a smile. “You’re welcome. Sorry I, uh...kinda laughed at you. I thought you had fallen down right after I said ‘don’t fall down’, and...yeah.”
The shivers are getting worse now. “Technically I...did. Just...not my fault.”
Lance’s smile morphs into a frown. “We’ve gotta get you dried off and warmed up somehow.”
Finally gathering her energy, Pidge pushes herself up to sit, wrapping her arms around her body as if it’ll somehow help dispel the ice that has taken over. “N-not sure how that’s...gonna happen...in the middle of the...quizn-nacking jungle.”
Glancing back over his shoulder as if a solution will magically appear - and well, they are in space, stranger things have happened - Lance sighs and moves to stand up. “Maybe we should keep moving. That might help you warm up, and eventually we have to run into some civilization, right? Coran said there were sentient aliens on this planet.”
“Yeah, and s-somebody had to have set up th-that trap.” Moving is the last thing she wants to do right now. Her headache from before has multiplied exponentially in strength, and her ribs did not appreciate all the coughing she just did. She wants to curl back up on the ground and not move again for a century or two. But she allows Lance to throw her arm over his shoulder and pull her up to her feet, even if she groans dramatically in the process.
“Well, I think we should just keep following this river - not quite so closely this time - and see wh-”
This time he cuts off without an interruption from Pidge, and she looks up to see what he’s staring at. It’s aliens. A whole pack of them, bipedal and four-armed in multiple shades of green fur that almost blends in with the trees, and they’re armed with spears and axes.
They’re probably the ones that set the snare, and now they’ve come to see what they caught. Which, unfortunately, is them.
“Uh, hi guys,” Lance squeaks. “We’re, um. We’re the Paladins of Voltron. Any chance you’ve heard of us?”
This sets off an immediate wave of whispers through the group. The alien in front straightens from their defensive position and steps forward. “Voltron? The rumors are true, then? Voltron lives?”
Pidge can feel the tension leave Lance’s body. “Yes! Yes, Voltron has returned! We came here in one of the Voltron Lions to look for supplies, but something on your planet has interfered with our devices. We need help to contact our team and to find what we’re looking for.” He glances over at Pidge, whose teeth are clenched tightly to keep them from clacking together. “And she needs to get warm before she gets sick.”
The lead alien turns to have a whispered consultation with the others before nodding at Lance. “Very well. Follow us, and we will assist you.”
Another removes their heavy-looking cape and approaches carefully, draping it around Pidge’s shoulders. Immediately she melts into the warmth. “There will be a fire waiting for us in the village.”
“S-sounds great,” she manages.
Lance smiles, pulling her in a bit tighter. “Thank you.”

here’s 5.7k of the unsinkable 8 during the zombie apocalypse. good for fans of leatin and goodfoe. it’s super unedited and i’m mainly just posting it for fun cause i finished it today. some references to world war z the book for fun, and i used the zombies from that too.
A flash of blonde and Dot’s gun went up, pointed directly at the head of whatever made their way toward her. She had two bullets left, six cigarettes, and the last mini of hard liquor she raided from the motel back in Aquilla.
She’d have to get it in one shot, which would be hard sitting down, with her back to it, half delirious.
She grunted as she pulled herself around, her leg still out in the makeshift splint. The zed crept closer, not going at the usual hobbling pace. It definitely had caught her scent though, maybe it was down a few limbs already.
She cocked her gun, flicking off the safety, keeping her finger off the trigger. She’d wait until she could see the whites of its eyes. Get it in one shot.
The blonde head crept closer and she finally tucked her gun over the rocks, making eye contact with it for the first time.
“Shelby Goodkind?”
“Dot Campbell?”
Shelby stared at her, lowering her own gun and Dot let out a breath of relief.
“Dottie, oh my god, I thought you were one of ‘em.” She put away her gun, Dot doing the same and she ran over. “It’s so good to see ya, what’s wrong?” She looked at the leg, her face paling.
“Ankles broken,” Dottie muttered. “Was gonna treat myself to one last drink,” she gestured at the bottle.
“Oh lord,” Shelby said. “Well that’s no good, I got a place not to far from here I’ve been camping out in. Some first aid stuff too.”
“I can’t give you anything back for it,” Dot said.
“We both know two people are more likely to make it,” Shelby said.
She looked sunburned and hollowed out, a little hungrier than the last time Dot saw her, headed with her family to that military base. She was alone, and desperate, everyone was. Because here was how it went in Texas. You could trust a stranger as far as you could throw ‘em, but you needed people to live. So if you had people, you lived. And Dot was people, or as close to people as Shelby was willing to get. She musta lost a lot to lower her standards so far.
“Alright,” Dot said. “We’re gonna have to go slow and you’re gonna have to carry a lot of shit.”
“No problem,” Shelby beamed.
Back at the camp, an old rusting trailer with some battery Shelby told her she was saving for a rainy day, Shelby re-splinted her, fed and watered her, and they pooled their resources. Twenty-six cigs now, which might get ‘em a few hours in a safe car north, if they wanted it. Or it might get ‘em some food, or a get out of jail free card, depending on the hunger of the people hunting ‘em.
It was late at night when Dot realized she hadn’t even asked yet.
“Family’s gone then?”
“Yeah,” Shelby said. “You?”
“My dad died before this shit show,” Dot said.
“Lucky,” Shelby said. She took a swig from the mini, and passed it over to Dot. “What’s your plan?”
“I heard there was a safer spot near San Antonio,” Dot said. “Running water and shit.”
Shelby shook her head, “Gone, three weeks ago. Heard it on the radio.”
Dot nodded, “What about you?”
“Radio said Hawaii’s better,” Shelby said. “There’s an operation ferrying people there on the west coast. It’s a thousand cigs per person. But there’s work by the dock if you’re willing to do it.”
“Work for you?” Dot asked.
Shelby’s jaw tightened, “I’ll do what I have to do. Lord forgive me.”
Dot sighed, “Sounds like we go west then.”
They hung around in the trailer for three days, pushing the limits of what was safe, and stumbled on to a new place in the area at daybreak on the fourth day. Dot’s ankle wasn’t broken, with the inflatable cast Shelby had in a week or so she’d be something regarding useful, and as long as she didn’t push herself she’d be more than fine.
Spending time with Shelby Goodkind was another story. For one thing, despite the zombie apocalypse, complete destruction of their lives and modern society, the death of her family and everyone in their town, Shelby was still good and kind. She’d clutch at the cross around her neck every time they’d pass a body, and would never touch one, even the ones that were recent and obviously not stripped clean. It made Dot kinda mad, she found five cigs just walking, and she wondered how many Shelby passed off being squeamish.
But Shelby also wasn’t squeamish, wasn’t afraid to take down a zed with a kitchen knife, and with that same hand wipe the gore off Dot all gentle. She called her Dottie, gave her the last blanket, and always volunteered for the first shift so Dot could watch the sunrise. Dot hadn’t been cared for in a long while, hadn’t been around people in even longer. She decided she might love it.
But Shelby was a magnet, always had been, she talked about god’s light long enough that she got Dot believing it all fell on her. It wasn’t a real surprise when she showed up with a stray.
“What the fuck,” Dot said. “Did you kidnap a child?”
“I did not kidnap a child,” Shelby said, picking the girl up with some difficulty and lifting her onto the backseat of the broken down minivan they were holed up in.
“I sent you out to get sunscreen,” Dot said. “How did you come back with a child?”
“She’s our age,” Shelby said. “I think. And listen, I found her barricaded in a utility closet with a bad fever, I knew we had some tablets but I didn’t wanna leave her.”
“Like bite fever?” Dot asked. “We don’t have enough bullets to—”
“No,” Shelby shook her head, “Look,” she gently unwrapped a bandage around the girl’s arm, revealing a bad slice. “It’s infected. Not a bite. We’re okay.”
Dot sighed and nodded. The girl’d probably try and rob ‘em blind but if they watched her hands and got away fast enough they should be fine. They’d be fine.
“You’re more trouble than you’re worth,” Dot muttered. Shelby smiled, all sweet and gentle and bright and Dot rolled her eyes.
The girl took the tablets, they washed and changed the bandages, after about fourteen hours she blinked awake, unfortunately while Dot was on watch.
“Who—who are you?”
“Dot Campbell,” she said.
The girl stared at her.
“My friend saved your ass,” Dot said. “Shelby.”
“Um,” the girl inched back, “Why? Where am I?”
“We’re on the twenty-two, not from from the ten-eighty,” Dot told her. “You got a nasty infection there, got any cigs?”
“No, I don’t smoke.”
Dot blinked at her. “Alright then.”
“My friends will be looking for me,” the girl said. “I should get back to them.” She didn’t have an accent, Dot realized, not even a thin one like her own.
“Shelby found you around Mr. K’s, we can draw you a map if you’d like,” Dot said. “Where you from?”
“Austin,” the girl lied, badly.
“Alright then,” Dot said again. “Well we’ll draw you a map in the mornin and you can leave a day break. It ain’t far.”
“Thank you,” the girl said. “For helping me.”
“Shelby’s idea,” Dot said. Neither of ‘em slept the whole time, the girl smart enough to keep an eye out, and Dot’s whole job to watch out. She woke Shelby up when she was supposed to and easily muddled into a slumber.
A nice thing, about the zombie apocalypse, was Dot had gotten a lot better at sleeping. She used to stay up for hours thinking ‘bout how she’d pay the bills, how much her dad’s meds cost, whether he was coughing more that night than he did most nights, but now she hit whatever soft looking rock she decided to call a pillow and conked out until Shelby woke her. Shelby, on the other hand, barely slept a wink, shooting up at the slightest sign of trouble, even when Dot was on watch. Too much time on her own, Dot’d guess.
Before Shelby Mateo wandered with Dot. He was quiet and sweet and she had took care of him as best she could. Shelby didn’t have nobody before Dot. Just her dead parents, and if Dot remembered eighth grade soccer well enough, a couple of dead siblings too.
So Dot pretty much conked out and missed the way the girl and Shelby giggled all night. But even she wasn’t blind to their bond when she woke, the way the girls smiled easily at one another, laughed with each other, kept up with each other.
“Dottie,” Shelby said. “Martha,” so that was the stranger’s name “said you told her we could draw her a map but Mr. K’s ain’t far, we might as well take her.”
Dot grunted, she didn’t wanna waste a day but it wasn’t like Mr. K’s would take all day and they might as well see if they could find any more cigs. She hadn’t met any non-smokers in a long while. Apocalypse sorta took the fun out of being straight-edge, if Dot had to guess.
Dot took the back, a metal bat out and ready, and Shelby and Martha took the front. Shelby had a makeshift spear made, good for longer range, but worse up close, and she gave Martha the other bat they had. To borrow, Dot had emphasized.
One of the other things that never got old about the apocalypse, was walking up a highway. Walking straight up that middle line, knowing no one would dare drive a car ‘round there. It felt like the world was yours and empty, like you were finding it, rebuilding it, building it. It was as close to a cowboy as she had felt since her daddy let her ride on his back. It was as close to free as she had ever felt.
They got back to Mr. K’s and Dot saw the approaching figures first, aiming her rifle right at ‘em, safety off and gun cocked, but her finger off the trigger. It was Shelby’s hunting rifle, actually, but she had handed it to Dot first chance she had, looking kinda pale. She had Dot’s old handgun now, useless with this kinda range.
“Live ones?” Shelby asked.
“Can’t tell,” Dot said. “Just kinda standing there.”
“They could be waiting for me,” Martha said. Dot glanced at her, hoping the girl wasn’t actually as naive as she seemed. She probably was.
They walked as close as they dared, before Martha was able to confirm that yes it was her friends.
She ran at ‘em and one of ‘em collided with her, slamming her into a hug. There were two more, just kinda watching Dot and Shelby.
“We should go,” Dot said. “We did what we said.”
“Dottie,” Shelby said.
Dot sighed and the two of ‘em trudged up to the happy pair, reuniting like they had been separated for years, decades, instead of a few hours. It was a miracle they were reunited at all, Mateo said he’d meet her back at the camp in an hour and she had to bash his head in six months later with a sledge hammer.
“Who’re your friends, Martha?” One of the other people asked. It was four girls counting Martha, lucky, none of ‘em white, but they all looked around the same age as Dot and Shelby.
“This is Shelby,” Martha grinned, “And Dot.”
Dot nodded at them.
“I am just so pleased to make your acquaintance,” Shelby smiled, holding out her hand to the girl who still had an arm wrapped around Martha.
“This is Toni,” Martha said, squeezing the girl’s side when she didn’t take Shelby’s hand. “And Rachel and Nora.”
“Ah,” Shelby smiled, “Toni your sister right?”
Martha nodded, Toni glared. “Yeah it’s great to meet you or whatever. There a reason you kidnapped Martha?”
“I saw her passed out and worried she was alone,” Shelby explained. “I knew we had some tablets back at the camp but—”
“What do you want?” Rachel asked. “We got about six hundred if that’s—” Martha from Austin, Dot’s ass. Money hadn’t meant shit in Texas for awhile. These kids were from up north, probably pretty far up north too. Maine or some shit. Delaware.
“Got any cigs?” Dot asked.
“Yes,” Nora said. “We have a couple packs.”
“Great,” Dot held out her hands and two packs were dropped into them. Nora didn’t make eye contact the entire time, her hands fidgeting with anything. She was covered in scabs and scars, picking at her own skin probably.
“Where y’all headed?” Shelby asked.
“None of your business,” Toni said.
“Apparently the San Antonio Zone relocated to Tyler,” Martha said. “We heard some people talking about it last week.”
“Y’all got a radio?” Dot asked.
Martha shook her head.
“If you had one you’d know that that’s what they’re pulling now, telling people to go to Tyler, they shoot you as soon as you step foot in Athens.”
“So where are you guys headed?” Rachel demanded.
“West,” Shelby said. “Radio says they’re ferrying clean folks to Hawaii. It’s an island so.”
“Clean how?” Rachel asked, taking a step forward and lifting her jaw.
Dot sighed.
Shelby’s eyes widened, “Clean as in not infected, I mean.”
“Chill,” Rachel smiled, all thin, “I was kidding.”
“Great,” Dot said. “Not that this hasn’t been fun, but we should be going.”
“Wait,” Martha said. “It’s just, we might as well go west too. And we might as well go west together.”
“Marty,” Toni grabbed her by her uninjured arm, “I wanna talk to you for a moment.”
They got into a whispered argument for a few minutes. Rachel joined and it escalated but Martha came out on top, smiling as she approached them.
“We might as well go together,” she repeated.
Shelby’s smile was just as wide, “We would be alighted to have you.”
The new girls were a nightmare. Rachel and Nora, sisters as Dot would learn, hated one another. And by hated Dot meant, had a complicated relationship of love without trust or mutual respect. Nora didn’t trust Rachel, Rachel didn’t respect Nora, and they were constantly going at one another. Toni had some sorta toxic jealousy thing going on, despising Shelby because she was monopolizing Martha. She also tended to fly into these rages, making her wander off for long periods that had Dot itching to grab her gun and demanding the girl strip to check for bites. Mateo’s dad used to do the same thing, wander off to check his bite.
Shelby also was wholly focused on two things now: Martha, and Toni’s hate. Dot ambled along behind all of ‘em, keeping the sisters from killing each other, Toni’s voice down, and everyone else alive.
The worst part was it took Dot nearly three days before she caught sight of it.
“You have one hand,” Dot glared at Rachel. Rachel slung the pack over her shoulder.
“You’re just noticing that now?” Rachel asked. “I must be getting better with it.”
“The fuck happened?” Dot said.
“My hand got bit,” Rachel shrugged. “Cut it off before it spread, didn’t even know it would work.”
Dot whistled, low and quiet, like they were all used to being.
“I cut it off,” Nora corrected, sullenly.
Rachel rolled her eyes.
“I’m still quicker on the draw than you,” Rachel said, the words clunky in her mouth.
Dot set her jaw, “So y’all are sticking with the story that you’re from Austin?”
“We’re from New York,” Nora said. Rachel glared at her. “What? You think some group would waste three days on four teenage girls?”
“New York?” Dot asked. “Everyone knows it’s safer up north, why the hell are you down here?”
“You hear about Yonkers?” Rachel asked.
Dot shook her head.
“It was the last op the US military set up before they fell apart. We’d made it out by then but we watched it happen on the news. Someone in a group we had still had a phone and the whole thing was live streamed. All of the death. The group were supposed to go to some military bases up in Canada but we wanted a wide open space with plenty of guns.”
“Texas,” Dot said.
Rachel nodded.
“Stupid,” Dot told her. “You probably came for San Antonio too.”
Rachel sighed, “Nobody was gonna survive those Canadian winters without a base, and we weren’t sure we were gonna get one. Rather get bit than freeze.”
“How’d you meet Toni and Martha?” Dot asked.
“Toni and I got into a fistfight over some Takis,” Rachel said.
Dot nodded, “Fuego?”
“Fuego.”
And yeah they were a nightmare but quicker than Dot wanted they became her nightmare. Still though, she dragged Shelby away from Martha and Toni’s sides, and muttered, “we can still go. Ditch if you want. Whenever. We don’t know ‘em.”
Shelby, in high school, woulda been scandalized, muttered some bible passage at her. This Shelby was a little more grown and only looked at her all serious.
“You knew what I was when you picked me up,” she said. “And I knew what Martha was. We’ll face our consequences, I reckon.”
Dot nodded.
Walking all day, everyday, wasn’t easy stuff. Especially since they had to strip as many bodies as they could find. Nora figured it out pretty quick, mumbling something to Rachel who recruited Toni to storm over to Dot.
“You don’t smoke them, but you’re hoarding them,” Rachel said. “Why?”
Dot kept her easy pace. “These things are currency now, the value’ll only go up over time.”
“Currency for what?” Toni asked. “What are you trying to buy?”
“You think a ferry to Hawaii is free?” Dot asked. “I’m saving for all of us.”
“Dottie,” Shelby walked over, Martha sticking by Nora, “What’s up?”
“How much?” Toni asked. “Really, how much?”
“A hundred each,” Dot said, too quickly.
“Try again,” Rachel said.
“Dot,” Shelby got between them, looking at Dot. “Thou shalt not lie, right? Tell ‘em the truth.” Dot glared at her and Shelby turned back around to Rachel. “It’s five hundred each. We got about a hundred now, so no one’s going to Hawaii.”
“What if there aren’t enough?” Toni asked. “Who decides then?”
“We’ll draw straws,” Shelby said.
It was as easy a solution as anything but the tenseness started building up, Rachel and Toni viewing Dot with more suspicion. It’d fade, over time, Dot knew. Or they’d all die.
The worst it got, was actually Shelby’s doing, the easy peace maker of it all. They hadn’t bothered building a fire, despite how cold and exposed it got in Texas at night, but they huddled together between three cars they found abandoned along the highway that they pushed into a triangle. Someone got to the seat cushions of all three first, so there was nothing comfortable to lie their heads on. It was easy for Dot though, the asphalt as soft as anything to her now.
They stayed up later than they should’ve talking. Trading stories about their old life that all of them knew weren’t doing any good. Toni played basketball, was pretty good at it too. Rachel had a skill for swimming she’d never have again. Nora did quiz bowl, surprising no one. Dot talked about metal, fishing with her dad, what types of pills sold for what. Martha was a dancer, and a vegetarian once. It was something that made ‘em all crack up. When humans become man eating beasts, and once upon a time there were jokes online about vegans. Shelby talked about the yearbook, mission trips, Andrew.
But then cause Shelby started it by prattling on about Andrew Toni got it in her head to talk about Regan and Shelby was talking about Leviticus.
The next morning, Rachel quietly pulled Dot aside and told her to take all the cigarettes and head out. That they could make their own way west. Dot didn’t ask for an invitation to go with her.
They split off at the twenty-five, Dot and Shelby heading for the forty, Toni, Martha, Rachel, and Nora heading for the sixty.
Shelby was heartbroken for a few days, apologetic too, and grateful. Dot didn’t let her have any of that, only said, “It’s cause we’re from the same town. We might be the only ones from there left.”
They trudged on.
In Arizona Dot found the love of her life, her soulmate, Fatin Jadmani. In a completely straight way too. Fatin matched her tit for tat, spoke a language Dot hadn’t realized she’d been born knowing. Her girlfriend was an anxious woman named Leah, who Shelby got on with. Dot had worried, upon bringing the two back to camp, that Shelby would chase ‘em away again, but she hadn’t. Just smiled at the two of them, easily offering up a couple granola bars.
Whenever tenseness came about Fatin just laughed, and Leah rolled her eyes. It wasn’t perfect, Dot knew, there was too much hate for that, but it would last ‘em long enough. The four of ‘em just worked in this great lovely way.
Only problem was their destination.
“We barely managed to get out of LA,” Leah mumbled, she hugged her legs, her head leaning on Fatin’s shoulder.
“LA?” Shelby asked. “That’s where we’re headed.”
“What the fuck?” Fatin glared at Dot, “Dorthy I thought you had more sense than that.”
“There’s some military guys ferrying people to Hawaii,” Dot said.
“Where’d you hear that, the radio?” Fatin asked. She sighed at their nods, “They’re broadcasting out to whoever will hear it, but there is no ferry to Hawaii. The entire thing is just selling and shipping as many girls out as possible. We have no idea where though.”
“So when you say you barely made it out,” Dot said.
Fatin’s face was grim.
“We have to warn ‘em,” Shelby said.
“Warn who?” Dot asked.
“Toni and the others! They don’t know!” Shelby stood up. “I’ll plot out the course now and we’ll start out fresh tomorrow. We aren’t leaving ‘em to—to—we aren’t leaving ‘em.” She stormed off and Dot watched her go.
“She wants to go towards LA to help some motherfuckers who kicked you out of their group?” Fatin asked.
“Yeah,” Dot said.
“Are you gonna go with her?” Leah asked.
“I knew what she was when I picked her up,” Dot said.
“What do you wanna do?” Leah asked Fatin.
Fatin pressed her cheek to Leah’s head, “I don’t know if I can risk you.” Fatin looked at Dot, “Are you gonna be stupid?”
“No,” Dot said.
“Then we’ll come,” Fatin sighed. “Leah that okay?” Leah nodded.
Neither of ‘em were as good at offing zed as Shelby and Dot. Fatin was decent at finding stuff though, scoping stuff, and Leah had endurance none of the rest of ‘em could match. She was like a zed sometimes, just kept going, could keep going, until her knees wore down to dust and then she’d crawl, crawl until her fingers wore down to nubs and then she’d inch, inch until something put her out of her misery. It terrified Fatin and Shelby, but Dot couldn’t help being impressed.
So Dot ambled after Shelby toward Bethlehem on the forty but they were gonna leap back on the interstate and hopefully head ‘em off. Hopefully Martha, Toni, Rachel, and Nora’d be alive, and they’d find ‘em. And if they didn’t find ‘em, hopefully they’d be dead. And Shelby stopped sleeping about a day or two into trek. Would just keep staring at the maps and keeping watch, and taking inventory and thumbing around her necklace.
When Dot woke up on the third day of their walk, Shelby’s hair was much shorter and Fatin looked real scared. Shelby kept walking and walking and, in a fit of rage that matched Toni’s, launched her necklace off the highway. She looked like she regretted it after but they had no choice but to keep going.
They passed an arm and it looked like Rachel’s.
Shelby walked faster. Leah had that glint in her eye. Fatin took Dot’s hand and looked very very scared.
After two more days Shelby said fuck it, and found a car with some gas in it and told 'em to get in.
Dot stood in front, “Shelby,” Shelby glared at her, “This’ll attract every body in the fucking country. The sound, the smell, I’m not just talking about the dead ones neither.”
Shelby swallowed hard, “You gonna stay behind then?”
“Shelby,” Dot said. “If you leave me here I’ll get caught up in the hoard. That what you want?”
“Get in the damn car, Dottie!” Shelby said.
“If we get to ‘em in time, but there’s a fucking hoard following us, we won’t have anywhere to go but on,” Dot said. “Fucking think!”
“I am thinking,” Shelby spat back. She shoved Dot, “I’m thinking about Toni, and Martha walking from Minnesota to Texas only to die in California. I’m thinking about Nora and Rachel watching Yonkers fall and then getting shipped off to who knows where. That’s what I’m thinking.”
“Shelby we can make it,” Leah said.
“No we can’t!” Shelby said. “I’ve done the math, I keep looking at these maps, there’s no way we’ll make it in time without a mode of transportation. No car and they die.”
“Then what the fuck are we going there?” Dot asked. “If it’s too late—”
“It is not too late!” Shelby said, her throat was all closed and choked sounding. “I can save ‘em! Jesus fuckin Christ we have to help ‘em!”
“Shelby,” Dot said, she put a hand on her shoulder. “We can’t take a car, and we can’t make it by foot,” Shelby’s face crumpled. “They’re gone, alright? We should be planning our next move.”
“No,” Leah said. She shook her head, “We have to help them.”
“You don’t even know ‘em,” Dot said.
“I’m not letting four innocent girls go through what I nearly went through,” Leah said.
“I’m with Leah,” Fatin said. “We’ll take the car and play it by ear.”
“Play the-hoard-that-will-start-coming-after-us-the-second-we-turn-on-the-engine by ear?” Dot asked.
“Let’s vote,” Shelby said. “All in favor of going?”
Fatin, Leah, and Shelby all raised their hands.
“C’mon,” Dot begged. She looked at Fatin, “You told me not to be stupid!”
“So don’t be stupid,” Fatin said. “Get in the car.”
Dot sighed, wanted to punch something, wanted to cry, was too tired to do either, got in the car.
The car attracted so many fucking zed, they wouldn’t be able to stop, and they had to hope there was enough in the fucking tank to get them to wherever the four were. Dot watched the dead bodies creep closer, at their slow hobbling, relentless pace. Fatin drove, Shelby used her pike to spear any who got too close, Dot watched the maps and steadily got herself into a panic.
They were gonna die trying to save the asses of some girls they spent a couple days with.
This was not what Shelby was when Dot picked her up, this was not what she was. Shelby had gone behind Dot’s back and fucking grown as a person, hadn’t she? How the fuck was Dot gonna get away from her? She’d have to pack Fatin in a suitcase and then Leah too and that would mean entirely abandoning Shelby to be on her lonesome oh god.
Dot was stuck, wasn’t she.
As they kept driving Shelby had to keep spearing zed. It started off as one or two, but as the hours wore on they were leaning on five, six, a steady growing mass ambling behind ‘em.
If that had really been Rachel’s arm, they were probably dead. All of ‘em. Or maybe in the mass behind ‘em. And if they weren’t, they’d hear the car coming and head for the hills, assuming it meant a hoard was close behind. Which it was.
This was such a fucking terrible idea.
“So what, we just wait for a sign to say welcome to LA and then give up? We won’t find ‘em like this,” Dot said.
“Shut up!” Shelby said, she speared another.
“At least check you ain’t offing one of ours,” Dot said. “They could all be zed, for all we know.”
“I said shut up,” Shelby turned to glare at her and a zed slammed against the door. She speared it and Dot’s mouth clamped shut. “We just gotta keep going,” she said. “We’ll be fine, we just gotta keep moving.”
“You’re crazy,” Dot said.
Shelby didn’t have anything to say to that.
It was worse at nightfall, with visibility down, and they just had to keep going, to hope their car wasn’t stripped when they went over the bumps of mutilated corpses still hungry for a last meal.
“We’re almost to LA,” Shelby said. “We got nearly a hundred cigs, we might be able to bribe someone if they jump us.”
Leah snorted.
They were driving through an empty enough part of Nevada though, less corpses hurling themselves off the road and towards them. Still the ever growing mass behind ‘em now, maybe fifty, seventy five, but about twenty out.
“I gotta piss,” Dot said.
“Hurry,” Fatin said.
Dot stumbled out, no one noticing her grabbing her pack. The zed would follow the car, she’d make a clean break. She’d survive.
She was only seven minutes south, judging by the north star Shelby taught her to find when someone’s hand grabbed her. She pulled out her hand gun, jamming it into the head and flicking the safety off.
“Dot! Jesus Christ!”
The girl was wide-eyed, tan, hollowed out, empty and desperate. Reminded her of the empty pill bottles around her house after her dad died.
“Toni?”
Toni nodded, “Why are you here? Fuck that I don’t give a shit, you got water?” Dot handed it to her and Toni downed it. “The other’s are close, c’mon.” She stumbled as she got up, clearly dizzy, and Dot grabbed her forearm.
“We’ve been looking everywhere for you guys,” Dot said.
“Don’t tell me it’s you in the fucking car,” Toni said. “We’ve been running from that thing for ages.”
“I fucking told Shelby,” Dot said.
“Shelby?” Toni asked, she was almost too exhausted to sound disgusted, but she managed it.
“Listen, LA isn’t safe, we found out. They’re not taking kids to Hawaii, they’re taking them.”
Toni went pale, “Fuck.” She even sounded choked now. “Shelby’s having a fucking aneurysm worrying about you so I don’t even think she’s that fucking homophobic. I’ll get everyone back to the car, you tell ‘em I’m coming.”
Toni nodded, stumbling towards the street and Dot walked back to the direction Toni pointed to before she left. Rachel, Nora, and Martha were all in various points of disarray. Exhausted, dehydrated, starving, aching and bleeding. Dot had to half carry, half drag Nora with Martha and Rachel had to get a stick to lean on as they stumbled toward the street.
“We got like ten minutes,” Fatin said. “People are gonna have to double buckle, and before anyone else makes a decision, we’re going north.”
Dot strapped everyone in and found herself sitting next to Shelby who met her eyes in a hundred yard stare.
“You took your pack.”
“Yeah.”
“But you came back.”
“Yeah.”
“Fine.”
They started on again. Dot saw Toni keep sneaking glances at Shelby and Shelby kept sneaking ‘em back.
They weren’t far from Mt. Tobin when the two finally stopped dancing around each other.
Dot convinced everyone to ditch the car near LA, walking as quickly as they could once they did, knowing it’d take awhile to ditch the hoard too. Dot watched Toni talk to Shelby in low tones, Shelby full of apologies and panics and Toni keeping her cool longer than Dot had ever seen it.
Martha took to Fatin quickly, everyone did, and Nora and Leah spent long hours walking beside each other mumbling about books or something. Not anything Dot gave two shits about.
Rachel ambled along with Dot most of the time. Whenever Fatin and Leah were all over each other and Dot didn’t feel like third wheeling. Rachel was always listening to the radio and as time passed it became clear that the two of them were the most capable of keeping everyone alive. And not in a more knowledgable way. Because Nora knew what plants were edible, and Shelby was a better shot. Or in an emotional way, because Fatin and Martha handled that. But in a planning sorta way. Because Dot knew how to get them to point B, while Rachel was working on point E.
“We should go to Washington,” Rachel muttered on one of the late nights they spent keeping watch while they poured over maps. “We might be able to find a boat to Victoria.”
“Victoria?” Rachel pointed her out.
“It’s a Canadian island. Canada lasted a little longer than we did, Victoria might not be in such a bad way.”
“Less guns in Canada,” Dot said. “And there might not be a boat that’ll take us there. Plus, we don’t know the currency.”
“We’re eight teenage girls,” Rachel pointed out. “We stick around so close to Cali, we’re asking for trouble. We need to put an ocean between us and whatever the fuck they’re doing there.”
Dot sighed. So they’d go to Washington.
On the way they’d probably run into another group who’d tell them Washington was overrun but there was something decent in Wisconsin. Half way to Wisconsin someone would tell ‘em their information was bad and they need to get south where there were guns and space. They’d almost be in Georgia when someone would tell ‘em there was some real government up in New York again.
They’d follow pipe dream to pipe dream to pipe dream. They’d probably die young.
Toni curled around Shelby, holding Martha’s hand. Fatin and Leah held on for dear life. Rachel didn’t take her eyes off Nora. Dot watched them all.
Yeah they’d probably die young. Better than dying alone.

The Right Time ~ JJ Maybank
Blurb: JJ finds the right time to tell you how he feels in his own JJ way.
This is Part 2 of Not The Right Time so if you haven't read Part 1, you can read it here.
Word Count: 2,819
Warnings: mentions of drinking, cheating, a non-descriptive fight, teensy bit of blood, small nod towards suicidal thoughts at the end, cliche and cheesy writing, swearing, poorly proofread so probably spelling and grammar mistakes, I think that's it.
~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since your breakup with Brett, JJ had been doing everything in his power to make sure you knew it had nothing to do with you and Brett just couldn't keep his dick in his pants.
It was hard for him to see you like that, all heart broken and sad, but at least he was able to see you. Kie, Pope, Sarah and John B had tried visiting multiple times during your post breakup hermit phase with little to no success.
A knock on the door sounded throughout the house as JJ finished preparing lunch for you two.
"Hold on!" He hollered, finishing up your sandwich before heading over to the door.
He opened it to reveal the other four members of your group.
"Hey." JJ greeted his friends.
"Can we see her today?" John B asked.
"I can ask but her 'social battery's low'. Her words, not mine." JJ sighed.
"It's just that it's hard for us to not see her, J."
JJ looked at Sarah. " At least you don't have to see her completely shattered everyday and have to sit and watch her eat three times a day to make sure she actually does eat."
Pope looked past JJ and saw the sandwiches on the table. "Can I sit with her today?"
JJ looked at Pope before nodding and gesturing towards your sandwich. "That one right there."
Pope smiled before grabbing the sandwich and knocking on your door, hearing a faint come in afterwards.
You looked to see Pope entering, a small smile on his face. "Hey. Heard about your low battery and I figured you'd want to see someone who's not JJ but not the whole peanut gallery."
You smiled lightly as you sat up. "Thanks, Pope. I love JJ but he can be a bit...overbearing sometimes."
"And this is one of those times." Pope nodded.
You sighed as Pope gave you your sandwich.
"He's just concerned about you. We all are."
"l know."
"How about I tell you about some books I've been reading?"
"I'd like that Pope." You smiled as you bit into your food.
It's not that JJ was bad at comforting or anything like that. In fact, ever since you were a kid, you always went to him for comfort when you were upset. It's just that JJ always seemed to want to rush your mourning period.
JJ didn't like seeing you sad so the less time you spent crying and moping, the better for him.
"Morning, Y/N/N." JJ smiled lightly as he drew back your curtains.
"J, get out." You mumbled into your pillow.
"You gotta get up, sweetheart." JJ practically sang, walking over to your bed and grabbing the comforter.
Your grip immediately tightened. "Don't J."
"I know it's only been a week but come on Y/N. Let in some sun. If not for you, do it for your children." He nodded towards your plants as he laid down next to you.
"I can't get up." You told him.
"Sure you can. You're a bad bitch who isn't going to let this break her. I'm not going to allow you to bury yourself in work and hole yourself up in your room forever just because some dumbass doesn't realize when he's got the greatest girl to ever walk the earth."
You stared at the blonde next to you. "JJ. I can't get up cause you're in here and I'm only in my underwear.
JJ rolled his eyes. "Y/N, all due respect, that's no excuse cause I've seen you naked many times before. the time you broke your ankle in the shower being the main one cause I had to help you in and out of the shower multiple times."
You blushed at his words before shoving him. "Just get out."
JJ did as you requested but not before tossing you some clothes.
So when a few months had passed and you seemed to be back to pre-breakup Y/N, JJ was happy to hear Kie mention a party.
Everyone looked at you and you shrugged. "Why the hell not?"
JJ, John B and Pope all exchanged smiles as Sarah and Kie pulled you up from your seat, saying something about making you so hot that the sun would quit and you'd have to take over the job of keeping the earth warm.
JJ watched as you left, sighing as he let his head fall against the back of the couch.
John B looked at his best friend. "Don't be a helicopter JJ tonight."
A look of confusion found its way onto JJ's face. "Helicopter JJ? What the fuck does that mean?"
Pope sighed. "It's like a helicopter parent except you. You tend to hover over Y/N/N at parties and get a bit...protective at times."
"I do that with Kie and Sarah too." JJ scoffed.
"Not really." The boys responded.
"You don't follow Kie's movements as much as Y/N's." Pope started.
"You certainly don't freak out as much when you lose Sarah or Kie but you almost had a panic attack when you lost Y/N that one time at the store and literally had someone page her." John B added.
"You hide some of Y/N/N's clothes when we're going out because you don't like the chance of her wearing something that could cause a guy to like her and cause you to lose your chance with her."
"I once saw you shield her eyes at prom when people started grinding on each other."
"Okay! So I'm a bit more protective of Y/N than the other two. Sue me." JJ cut the two off.
"Point is that this is her first party in months. Let her get a bit too drunk and make out with some hotshot Kook against a tree."
"Hell, let her get some dick tonight." John B shrugged.
Pope and JJ looked at their curly haired friend before JJ shook his head.
"Fine but she's not getting dick from just anybody. I have to approve of him." JJ said as he stood up and left the room,
The two other boys sat in silence before Pope spoke.
"You know what? I count that as progress and when we make progress with JJ…"
"We have a beer." John B finished, getting up to go get each of them a can.
*****
You and the rest of the pogues made it to the party and found yourselves a home by the bonfire. Rafe, Topper and Kelce had stopped by to say that they were happy to see you again and Kelce was happy that his beer pong partner was back because Rafe and Topper just didn't compare to you.
JJ stared at you, the fire illuminating your features as you laughed at something Kie had said, red cup in his hand that was half-empty. He brought the cup to his lips and finished his beer before turning to you.
"Refill, Y/N/N?"
You nodded before turning to the rest of the group. "JJ and I are making a refill trip. Who else needs one? Speak now or get it yourself." You announced as you stood up.
JJ smiled at your words before also getting up, ready to grab some cups. Pope and Sarah held out their cups while Kie and John B shook their heads.
You took the cups that needed a refill before you and JJ made your way through the crowd of people towards the keg. JJ cracked some jokes with some of the others around the keg and you rolled your eyes, a small smile on your face before you nudged him with your shoulder.
You two started refilling the cups you had before you were interrupted.
"Haven't see you at a party in awhile, Y/N."
You and JJ turned your heads to see Brett standing there, two cups in his hand.
JJ rolled his eyes before looking at you, seeing you avert your gaze back to the keg.
"Why don't you go back to your whore over there Brett." JJ deadpanned.
You smacked JJ's wrist. "Don't call her a whore, JJ. It's rude."
"I'm just stating my opinion."
"Oh so she does still talk. I was just confused when she didn't say hi to me when I greeted her." Brett said.
"Can you get the fuck away from us? She clearly doesn't want to have a conversation with you." JJ snapped.
"I would love to know what you have to say, Y/N, or are you gonna let JJ over here keep talking for you." Brett aimed at you, ignoring the blonde who was getting more agitated by Brett's presence.
"I have nothing to say to you." You shrugged, going to grab the cup.
"We should talk." Brett went to grab you but JJ grabbed his wrist.
"Don't touch her."
"What are you gonna do about it, Maybank?"
"I've got two fists that have been itching to meet your face for months now and tonight might be their lucky night if you keep it up."
"JJ, lets just go." You whispered, placing a hand on his forearm.
JJ looked at you before grabbing his and Pope's cup before following you back to the group.
"Hey, JJ!" Brett called causing JJ to look back.
You gasped as a fist made contact with JJ's face. JJs hand immediately flew to his eye, gingerly touching his eyebrow. He pulled his fingers away to see blood and he chuckled before swinging his own fist.
It wasn't long before JJ had Brett on the ground, pissed beyond belief. Brett managed to get a few more punches in but JJ definitely got way more in by the time you managed to pull him off of Brett with Kelce's help.
"JJ! Calm down, man! He's not worth your time!" Kelce hollered, pinning his arms to his side.
"JJ, look at me. It's done. It's over. You're good now." You told him.
Brett stood up with a scoff. "He could have fucking killed me."
"I fucking should, you cheating son of a bitch!" JJ spat, Kelce's grip tightening on the blonde boy when JJ attempted to lunge forward.
"J, let's just go home. We've had our fun."
JJ looked at you before relaxing causing Kelce to release his hold on him slowly. You grabbed JJ's hand and pulled him away from the small crowd that had formed around him and Brett.
You two said goodbye to your friends and walked back to JJ's truck, you climbing into the passenger seat and him into the drivers.
It was a quiet ride home, Twenty One Pilots playing softly through the speakers the entire time. JJ referred to them as his therapy band, often putting them on after a hard day at work or after a fight so it wasn't really a surprise that he had one of their CDs in.
Once you got home and inside, JJ locked the door before turning towards his bedroom.
"Um, excuse me. Where are you going, JJ?" You asked, grabbing his wrist.
"Bed."
You shook your head. "We gotta clean you up. Bed can wait."
You tugged him into the bathroom and grabbed the first aid kit as you instructed JJ to sit on the toilet lid. He complied, bouncing his leg up and down as you put a little hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball.
"That's your first fight in a while." You commented, grabbing his chin lightly and forcing him to look at you.
He grunted in response as you started cleaning the few small cuts on his face. "The prick deserved it for what he did to you. You'd have to be fucking nuts to cheat on someone like you."
You felt my heart flutter at his words and I sighed. "I just hate seeing you like this, JJ. All scratched up."
JJ chuckled as he shook his head lightly. "Oh, Y/N, sweetheart. This is nothing compared to the beat down Brett just got and what my dad used to dish out when I was living with him."
JJ saw your face drop at his words and your eyes begin to water.
"Hey, Y/N. It was just a small joke." He told you gently as he grabbed your hands with his.
You shook your head and went to pull away from him but he just pulled you back, looking up at you as if he was a parent trying to comfort their child.
It weirdly looked like all those Super Nanny time out scenes where the kid looks down in shame as they apologize and the parent is dipping their head down to make eye contact with the kid. You know what I'm talking about?
"I don't like it when you do the whole 'my dad hit me harder thing', J, whenever you try to play off your pain and injuries." You mumbled, a tear slipping out.
JJ wiped away the single tear, mad at himself for upsetting you. "I'm sorry but maybe the waterworks are a bit much. Hmm?"
"I'm sorry. It's just that you shouldn't fight my battles for me. I was going to just walk away from him."
"I'm sorry, are we ignoring the fact that I was walking away? He threw the first punch and I made sure he would think twice before doing that again."
"I just don't like you getting hurt because of me." You sighed.
"Hey, I'd rather get hurt than have you get hurt."
You wrapped your arms around his neck and his went around your waist.
"I always liked your hugs better." You hummed.
JJ felt himself smile. "Yeah?"
You nodded. "You wanna know something, J?"
"Yeah."
"I always felt like you paid more attention to me than Brett. After a year of dating him, he still didn't know my favorite flowers or that I was allergic to bees. Those are the two simplest things to learn about your significant other. You know that I can't even stand the smell of fish sticks anymore or that I can't watch the Freaky Fred episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog or I'll have nightmares."
"That's because I care about you a lot." JJ whispered, kissing your temple.
You ran a hand through JJs blonde locks and sighed. "I wish I dated you instead."
You froze. You could not believe that you had just told your best friend that. You also could not believe how easily those words left your mouth and how much truth there was to them. You did wish you dated JJ instead and not just because of how attractive he was. He always treated you way better than Brett and was more intune -and concerned- about how you were feeling.
JJ also froze, praying that he heard those words correctly and that it wasn't his mind playing a sick joke. He had been waiting for the right time for months and his gut had been telling him all day that today was the day but he fought the urge, afraid his gut was lying. But this...this must be the sign.
"Do you really mean that?" He asked, fighting a smile in case you meant a guy like him and not actually him.
You paused before nodding. "Yeah, I do."
You felt his arms tighten around you and his face bury itself in the crook of your neck.
"You remember all those months ago when you made a big deal about me liking someone and you asked me why I hadn't made a move yet and I told you it wasn't the right time?" JJ words were muffled by your skin.
"Mhmm."
He pulled away to look at you. "I think now's the right time."
And then he pressed his lips against yours. You were quick to kiss back and it held the adoration you felt was missing long before you and Brett broke up.
You pulled away, placing a hand on his cheek which caused JJ to close his eyes and lean into your touch.
"Thank you for being in my life." You whispered, taking the forgotten cotton ball in your hand and pressing it to the scratch above his eyebrow.
JJ smiled. "No. Thank you for being in mine. You helped me through the toughest times and gave me a reason to stay."
"I wouldn't have objected to leaving the Outer Banks with you."
"I meant like stay here, like on Earth." He mumbled.
You stared at him before kissing his cheek. "Thank you for staying here with me."
JJ opened his eyes and grinned as some hair fell in front of his eyes. "As much as I love our little moment, can we move the cleaning process along cause I kind of want to climb into bed with you in my arms tonight."
You smiled, pushing his hair out of his face. "Sure thing, Jay-Bird. That sounds amazing."
Wolf AU! BTS Scenario| You get lost in the woods and meet them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had decided to go for a walk in the woods. They weren’t unfamiliar to you and you had walked often in them. You had a path you had marked off on the trees as a way for you to help find your way back, but today you wanted to stray a little bit from your usual path and explore the woods further. The twigs snapped and leaves crunched under your feet as you made your way further into the undiscovered parts of the woods. You could hear something that sounded like running water and that intrigued you, so you headed towards the sound. Eventually you came to a small brook that was blocking your path. You wanted to keep going, and carefully stepped onto the rocks to keep your shoes from getting wet. However you didn’t notice that one of the rocks was covered in moss, so you lost your footing and fell into the creek. You could feel your ankle roll as you went down and cried out in pain.
“Oh my god. Ow. What the hell? Of course that is just my luck!” You try to stand up but pain shoots through your ankle up your leg and you immediately fall back into the water.
“Well this is great. Just perfect. No one is out here and I’m going to die in this stupid creek.” You flop back into the water and stare up at the sky, questioning all your life choices that lead you to this point. The water and air was getting colder as the day went on and you couldn’t help but start to shiver. You sat up out of the water and attempted to drag yourself out of the creek. It was slow going, but eventually you were now sitting on the edge of the water, completely soaked but at least out of the cold water. You knew yelling for help was fruitless, no one came to these parts of the woods anyway but you yelled anyway, hoping by some miracle someone would hear you. You were just about to give up when you heard branches snapping and brush rustling as if someone was working their way towards you.
“Hello? Is someone there? Can you help me please? I slipped and fell and hurt my ankle I’m worried it might be broken.” The noises get closer, and it definitely sounds like a group of… whatever is headed your way. The footsteps were too light to be human. Now you felt panic bubbling in your chest. There were  multiple different animals in these woods that could and would eat a human. You were staring hard where you heard the noises coming from, and saw a flash of dark brown fur go across your vision. Multiple flashes of dark brown and silver fur. As they made their way closer you could tell they were a pack of wolves, 7 of them.
“Oh great! If the starvation doesn’t get me then the wolves will. I shouldn’t have strayed off the path. No, I should never have came into these woods in the first place.” One of the wolves, a rather large black one started walking towards you. It was about a foot away from you now, leaning in to sniff your hand that was resting on the ground.
“Ah you smelling me to see if I am going to be your next meal? Well listen here wolf this is not how I plan to die so if you even try to take a chunk out of my hand I will fight you.” You muster up your most intimidating glare and the wolf tilts its head at you in confusion. It moves closer so it’s face to face with you.
“I was kidding, please don’t eat me.” You squeeze your eyes shut and feel a few puffs of hot air on your face, and when you open your eyes it almost looks like the wolf is laughing at you.
“You think this is funny Mr. Wolf? Cuz I don’t see how this is a laughing matter! I’m going to die out here in the woods because your pack is going to eat me or I’m gonna starve to death.” The wolf whines at you, licking your cheek and sitting down and begins wagging his tail at you.
“You’re very friendly for a wolf. Where did the rest of your pack go?” He glances towards the woods and you can see there are 5 of them there.
“Where’s the 6th?” The black wolf doesn’t say anything, just lays is head on your lap and huffs which you take means it must want pet. So you run your fingers gently over his fur. You see his tail start wagging and it makes you smile and feel better for a few moments. That is until you see a shirtless man walking towards you. His hair is swept away from his face and he has bright blue hair. His eyes look kind enough, as do the dimples that form when he smiles at you. But you aren’t about to just start trusting some random stranger in the woods. You’ve seen enough horror movies to know where this is going.
“Oh my gosh please stay way. My day just keeps getting worse! Mr. Wolf! Attack him!”
“Hey hey whoa, I’m not going to hurt you. We just saw you were injured and wanted to offer to take you back to your car or… wherever you came from to end up here. You’re pretty far into the woods. Humans don’t usually come this far into our territory.
“Your territory? Our? We? There’s only one of you that I see. And what do you mean ‘humans’? You look pretty human to me.” Suddenly the fur in your lap starts to feel more like human hair and you glance down to see another half naked man now in your lap.
“Hi! I’m Taehyung it’s nice to meet you.”
“W-where did the wolf go? Who are you? How did you get there? I must have hit my head when I fell and am just hallucinating. Yes that’s it.”
“I am the wolf silly! Haven’t you ever heard of werewolves before?”
“Werewolves… like Twilight, Teen Wolf, made up stuff from fairy tales? Those werewolves?”
“We are very real I assure you.” The blue haired man says. “Just, Hollywood likes to play things up and make things more dramatic than they actually are. My name is Namjoon.” He holds his hand out and you take it, shaking it more out of habit as your brain right now is still processing all of this. “What’s your name? Do you live close to here so we can take you home?”
“Um.. my name is y/n. I don’t live close by, I drove here but my car is parked back that way somewhere, I think... I marked the trees so I knew which way I came from.”
“Ah that’s quite alright. Yoongi can pick up on your scent and help find your way back to the car even without the markers.” A smaller silver wolf comes out from the trees and makes his way over to you, sniffing your hand and his nose crinkles.
“Oh I’m sorry does my scent offend you? I’ve been lying in a creek for the past five hours I’m not gonna smell like a fresh field of daisies.” Taehyung bursts out laughing at that and Yoongi rolls his eyes, already walking away from you and heading towards the direction of your car.
“Jungkook?” Namjoon asks. A very fluffy and adorable dark brown wolf comes bounding towards him. “Can you go to your human form and carry y/n?” You blink your eyes for a moment and suddenly there is a very tall and muscular man standing over you. You notice the tattoos over his arm and the piercings in his ears. Most people might find him a little intimidating, but his eyes are kind and gentle and you immediately feel at ease when he smiles at you.
“Is that okay? If I lift you up now?”
“Sure. I just want to get home and get warm I’m freezing.” It’s now that you realize just how cold it’s gotten and begin shivering violently. Jungkook immediately scoops you into his arms and carries you effortlessly. And he’s honestly like a space heater. You snuggle closer to his chest and feel him tense up for a moment before he relaxes. “You’re so warm. It’s nice.”
“Um.. thank you I guess? Our body temperature tends to run a lot higher than a normal person so, I guess you can consider me your personal space heater until we get back to your car. “
“Thank you.” You all walk in silence for a while but you become curious about them and decide to ask questions to help pass the time.
“So there’s 7 of you. Who are the others?”
“Ah the little white one, that’s Jimin. The orangish rust colored wolf is Hoseok. Jin is the very broad dark brown wolf. And you already know Yoongi, Namjoon, Taehyung, and myself.”
“How did you all meet?”
“Well, either our packs and families abandoned us or sadly passed away. We all just kind of found each other at some point and decided it was better to stay together than be alone. So we formed out own little pack and family unit.”
“Oh.. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. We’re all much happier this way.” You smile at that and notice that there is now a blonde man standing next to you and Jungkook.
“Are you Jimin?” He smiles and his eyes disappear which you find absolutely adorable.
“Yeah! How did you know?”
“Your hair color is almost the same as your wolf’s. And your eyes are the same. They hold the same kindness and light.” Jimin smiles at that even more and you can’t help but wonder how anyone could abandon this sweetheart.
“Thank you! You know most people are afraid of us. You’re the first human we’ve had contact with in over 5 years.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Usually they run away from our wolf form, or run away from our human form when they realize what we are.”
“That’s…. sad.”
“It is. But honestly you were terrified when you first saw us too. I think if your ankle wasn’t hurt you would have run away too.” You hear a new voice say. Suddenly two more humans have joined you. “I’m Jin by the way. And this is Hoseok.”
“Nice to meet you both. And… as much as I wish I could say you’re wrong, you’re probably right. But I’m sorry. You all are so kind and sweet I guess I shouldn’t be so quick to judge.”
“Nonsense! You’re a human! You can’t tell the different between your friendly neighborhood werewolves or a feral wolf that just wants to eat you! You absolutely should be cautious!” It almost feels like Hoseok is scolding you and you shrink back against Jungkook.
“But… how can I tell? I don’t want to offend you all if I come across a werewolf again that is just looking for some companionship or a friend.”
“There’s really no way for you to know. Unless you get close enough to realize one is going to growl at you and try to bite you which at that point will be too late. And the other is just going to walk up to you immediately looking to befriend you, like Taehyung did.” You can hear Jungkook’s voice rumbling in his chest as he speaks and it immediately relaxes you. It’s quiet again after that until you hear Yoongi yipping up ahead. He breaks through the trees and you know this must be finally back to the area where you parked your car.
“Oh thank heavens.” You start squirming in Jungkook’s hold and he gently scolds you.
“Ah y/n don’t move around so much, you want me to drop you?”
“S-sorry!”
“By the way how are you going to get home with your ankle injured?” Taehyung asks.
“Oh. I can drive with my other foot.”
“Are you sure? One of us can take you home if you want?”
“Then how are you going to get back here?”
“I guess I didn’t think of that… you don’t want a new wolf roommate?”  If Taehyung was in his wolf form you know his ears would be flat against his head as he was afraid of you rejecting his offer.
“Honestly I would love to have any one of you stay with me but, I would never try to split up your family and I don’t exactly have room for 7 large wolves in my apartment.” Jimin giggles at that and pulls Taehyung back from you. Namjoon opens the car door and turns the car on but Jungkook refuses to let go of you.
“Um… Jungkook you can put me down now.”
“I will once your car warms up! I just don’t want you to be cold.” He holds onto you a little tighter until he deems your car warm enough and gently sets you down on the seat. You lean down and pat Yoongi’s head, thanking him for leading you back here. He makes a scoffing sound but you don’t miss the way his tail is wagging slightly, almost as if it has a mind of its own and he’s trying to stop it.
“Well I guess I should probably get going now. Thank you all so much. Seriously I don’t think I would have made it out of the woods without you. I owe you my life.”
“Oh it’s not trouble really! We’re just glad we could help you.” Namjoon places a hand on your shoulder and closes the car door for you. But before you can even put the car in drive suddenly your door is thrown open and Taehyung is clinging to you.
“Please come back to visit us! You’re really nice and don’t judge us and I think I speak for everyone when I say we would love to get to know you and be friends with you.” You’re a little taken aback at first, but eventually move your hand to Taehyung’s hair and run your fingers through it.
“Oh of course I will come back to see you guys. I know we haven’t known each other very long but I’ve already grown quite attached to you all. It just might be a while because I have to wait for my ankle to heal before I come back out here but, I promise I will be back.”
“Pinky promise?” Jimin holds out his pinky to you and looks at you hopefully. You don’t hesitate to link them together.
“Pinky promise. I won’t abandon you guys.” You hear a whimper from Taehyung and kiss the top of his head and ruffle his hair playfully. He pulls away and the large boxy smile on his face is one of the most endearing sights you’ve ever seen. He closes the door for you and waves. They all wave goodbye to you, Yoongi holding his paw up and Jin very dramatically blows you a kiss. You giggle and wave back, watching the rearview mirror as they all change back into their wolf form and go darting back into the woods playfully chasing after one another. Today might not have went the way you were planning, but you can honestly say despite the setbacks it was one of the best you’ve had. You have 7 new friends in your life and you can’t wait to get to know them and their way of life, maybe even someday getting to show them yours too.
Zagreus was feeling… well, something; he wasn’t sure what to call it. He swirled his fingers slowly in his scrying pool as he narrowed his eyes.
It might have started with Hypnos… Zagreus flinched a bit as the water shimmered to remind him of his own memories.
--------
“Wake up!” Zagreus had said sharply upon approaching the sleeping attendant, quickly moving his hands to scribble on Hypnos’ bare soles.
Hypnos jolted with a squeak, kicking Zagreus’ shoulder and knocking him to the floor. “Oops.” He murmured, not apologetic in the slightest as he chuckled. He let his clipboard and quill hover as he leaned to offer the godling a hand. “You’re back early, Tickles.” He smirked, heaving his brother to his feet as he glanced at his parchment. “Ah, the Wretched Sneak got you this time, huh? You never were good at dodging pokes, you know.” He taunted, quickly lifting Zagreus’ arm to prod his ribs.
“As if you’re any better!” Zagreus argued with a slight smile, covering his side and pulling his arm back. “Those lash marks on your ankles are cute.”
“Huh?!” Hypnos flinched, a gold blush lighting his cheeks as he glanced at his feet. There wasn’t anything there, except for Zagreus’ nails zipping up his soles again before catching both of his ankles. He traced lines around Hypnos’ ankles, seeming to follow a path that had been covered over.
“Heh, I’ll be sure to ask Meg if she knows how much you like feathers on your toes.” Zagreus taunted, about to walk away when Hypnos casually slipped an arm around him.
“Don’t think that just because your feet aren’t ticklish, I can’t get you back.” Hypnos smirked, wiggling his fingers under Zagreus’ chin.
-------
Zagreus jumped slightly, having practically felt the brush of Hypnos’ fingers on his neck as he remembered that conversation. He huffed as he splashed the water to silence it. He didn’t feel any closer to labelling the thoughts running through his head though. He peered hesitantly into the pool again, and the water rippled oddly.
-------
Orpheus plucked quiet little notes, a rare smile gracing his face as he seemed to look for a rhythm of some kind.
“Tell me, mate,” Zagreus said gently, leaning on the arm of the musician’s chair. “How often do you tune a lyre anyway?”
“As often as you must, my friend.” He shrugged, smiling a bit more as the prince rolled his eyes. “Or as often as you use it. I believe I tuned mine…perhaps every other day when we were performing the most. These days, I’ve come to notice that this lyre your father gave me doesn’t need much tuning; although, I admit I can’t help the urge to adjust the strings in occasion—" Orpheus had glanced up and around, finding Zagreus seated at his feet. “Am I rambling?”
Zagreus chuckled, resting his chin on his hand as his elbow balanced on his knee. “Yes. It’s nice.” He smirked. “You seem so relaxed when you speak freely.”
Orpheus shook his head, crossing one leg onto his opposite knee as he continued to play. “You’re always so kind, my prince. Although now that I’ve given it some thought, why do you ask about tuning? Have you acquired a lyre of your own?”
“Ah, I admit I’ve certainly considered it, but I asked about instrument tuning because a certain someone needs some tuning up.” Zagreus grinned a bit deviously when Orpheus didn’t seem to get it, reaching to pull the musician’s foot into his lap.
“I’m not sure that I—Ah!” Orpheus’ fingers tripped on a foul note as the prince’s knuckles dragged up his sole.
“Was I too subtle for you this time, Orpheus?” He taunted, drawing swirling shapes with his nails. “Or have you not learned to keep your wits about you yet?”
Orpheus cringed, covering his mouth as snickers rattled his frame and as his free hand attempted to find its place on the lyre.
Zagreus chuckled, shaking his head and scribbling his fingers. “See, you’re trying to play while I’m doing this; how am I to take that except as a challenge?” He sneered, watching Orpheus crumble into giggles as he kept a tight grip on his ankle. The prince hummed to himself, feigning an innocent grin as he reached up over his head. Orpheus had barely gotten his bearings when Zagreus presented the Harpy Feather Duster. He yelped softly with a chuckle as the blue plumes were shoved under his chin.
“As promised, mate.” Zagreus joked, his smirk returning. “But if you kick me, you die.”
Orpheus had been pretty unconvinced by his bluff, his leg flailing a bit when the feathers flicked along his sole.
“I’d call it a pity that you’ve yet to sing for us, Orpheus; but at the moment, I admit this is my favorite song of yours.”
-------
Zagreus found himself chuckling. It was still his favorite song, and Orpheus performed it well.
This feeling… What was it? Zagreus stared into the scrying pool, his eyes widening before he stepped back and covered his face.
Actually, maybe it was better he didn’t think about this anymore at all for the rest of time.
The water rippled. His memories called to him. Zagreus sealed his fate with a glance.
-------
Hades was “mad” at Zagreus, which was different from how he was when he was just normal mad. Zagreus had approached his father’s desk with a pair of leather sandals dangling from their broken strings between his fingers; and when Hades looked down at him, the look in his eyes almost seemed like…relief? The boy was puzzled for a moment until his father scooped him up and announced that court was adjourned for now.
“I’m sorry, Father.” The prince murmured as he was carried to his bedroom, earning a soft grunt that he couldn’t decipher. He was set down on his blue bedsheets, and his father seemed careful to let his legs dangle over the side.
Hades simply held out his hand, and Zagreus handed over the sandals to be inspected. At a glance, the soles seemed fine, but the insides were burned black; and the strings that Zagreus always struggled to tie around his ankles had several points where they’d been burned through and hastily tied back together. It was a wonder he’d been able to attempt tying them, let alone struggle with it.
“How many is that now?” Hades asked with a sigh, kneeling beside his son’s bed. “Do you remember?”
Zagreus nodded quickly, and Hades watched him count on his fingers. “Five…?” He said with all the confidence of a pair of burned sandals.
Hades chuckled, but he nodded. “Indeed. Five in half as many months. I won’t be requesting any more pairs if you’re just going to burn them all.”
Zagreus pouted, kicking his feet softly. “I don’t do it on purpose, Father…”
“I’m aware.” Hades hummed, moving his hands to lift Zagreus’ feet by their heels. “You get this from me, I’m afraid, but controlling it requires managing your emotions.”
Zagreus tipped his head, seeming to process that statement.
“You have to be calm, Zagreus.”
“I’m calm!” The child insisted, smiling brightly and bouncing a bit. His soles glowed a bit brighter, and Hades quirked an eyebrow as he felt the heat grow more intense. “…R-Right?”
Hades shook his head, tapping his son’s soles with his fingertips. “I don’t think so. What are you thinking about?”
“Um… I’m thinking about when I was playing with Than and Hypnos, and then Meg came to play even though she hasn’t in a long time, and we were running on the balcony, and that’s when the strings…” He blinked as he looked down; his feet were blazing orange, and red heat radiated up his ankles. “Oh… I see!”
“Do you?” Hades couldn’t seem to resist a smile. “I don’t think you’ve got it yet. What else were you thinking about?”
Zagreus tapped his chin, but he took a breath to steady himself. “I was thinking about Mother and you.” His feet cooled just slightly, and his toes flexed a bit as he watched them curiously. “Mother Nyx was away crafting the night and you…” He seemed to hesitate, almost looking for another thought.
Hades watched him, letting his thumbs rest on the tops of his feet as he found himself understanding. The heat was indeed fading. “You thought of me…” He sighed, moving his fingers slowly. “Because I was busy?”
“Um…maybe.” Zagreus murmured even though he was nodding, and he squirmed a little as he put a hand over his face to hide it. A giggle slipped out of his mouth, and a bit of heat reignited.
“Calm, Zagreus.” Hades tried not to smile, his fingers flexing purposefully. “Control.”
“I’m calm.” The boy insisted again, hardly any more convincing with the giggles falling out of him. “I’m ca—Stop tickling me!” He laughed, hiding his face again, but his reactions grew measured whenever the heat increased.
“I’m not doing anything, boy.”
“Liar…”
Hades paused, glancing up slowly; and Zagreus’s soles blazed brightly again as he covered his mouth. “You would accuse me of lying, boy?”
Zagreus squealed and tried to scramble backwards, only to get caught by one of his ankles and lifted upside down over his father’s shoulder. His hands flailed as Hades’ fingers dug softly into his ribcage, and he laughed brightly and tried to kick.
Hades returned to work with Zagreus zipping past to find his friends again. Small sparks followed after his small footsteps as he laughed excitedly. The burns on Hades’ fingertips were minor, and they were healed within the first hour after court reconvened.
 --------
Zagreus groaned heavily into his pillow, crossing his legs under himself as he sat on the bed.
He was jealous. A little bit at least. Maybe he was nostalgic. He was definitely wishing he could think about something else.
“Prince?”
Zagreus nearly jumped out of his skin when someone’s hand rested on his head. Achilles flinched away from him with a chuckle, setting his spear against the wall.
“Achilles?”
“Are you alright, lad? You seem troubled. We can postpone the exercises you wanted if you need to talk.”
“Ah, no.” Zagreus insisted, standing up suddenly and dropping the pillow on the bed. “I, uh… Sorry, sir. Please, let’s get started; I’ll even give you the first shot this time.”
Achilles watched the prince run out to the balcony, chuckling softly as he followed a moment later.
 “You seem awfully unbalanced today, lad…” Achilles called as Zagreus was looking over his weapons. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
“I assure you I’m quite certain, sir.” The prince said firmly, taking hold of Varatha and spinning it between his hands. “A knock or two in the head would do me good, so…” He paused as he heard an unfamiliar clatter, spinning around to see Achilles apparently wincing as he flexed Malphon’s fingers over his own. “Sir, what are you—?”
“Ah, well, I figured it’s about time I employ other strategies, prince.” The shade grinned, turning his wrists and getting a feel for the weight of the gauntlets. “You’ve grown so skilled since you were young; I fear you’ve seen all that I’m capable of with my spear.”
“I highly doubt that sir; although, I admit I wouldn’t have thought you’d be interested in Malphon.”
“Perhaps I’ll surprise you yet then; hand-to-hand combat and wrestling were quite popular in Greece when I was your age. Or, when I was young, I should say. Now then, I believe you offered to allow me the first strike.”
Zagreus chuckled and shook his head, holding Varatha defensively as Achilles lunged toward him. A sharp punch in the chest stung quite a bit more than he’d expected, stunning him enough that Achilles got ahold of his spear to start a grapple.
Zagreus adjusted his hold, standing his ground and pushing back hard. “Alright, I may have miscalculated. You still have quite a bit of fight for someone who claims to have lost his taste for war.”
Achilles laughed a bit, adjusting his stance to pull Zagreus’ spear. He twisted at the waist, pulling Zagreus across his front leg and wrenching Varatha out of his hands as he fell. “You mustn’t taunt me if you can’t even keep your stance, lad. I hardly regret embarrassing you after a performance like that.”
Zagreus cringed as he lifted himself up. “Embarrassed? I’ve been knocked over befo—Ack!” He had extended a hand, attempting to call Varatha from where Achilles had thrown it, but before the weapon could respond, Zagreus was flinching away from a jab at his waist. “What are you doing?”
“Ah, heh, apologies lad. Consider this… For old times’ sake, perhaps. I like to think I owe you for that arrow you shot at my back a few weeks ago. And more accurately…” Achilles grinned, stepping closer to him again and grabbing at his wrists to attempt to shove him down. “You read like an open book.”
“I-I—You… Sir, wait!” Zagreus cried out, unable to keep from smiling until Achilles swept his legs out from under him.
Malphon’s claws dug deep into his sides as Achilles perched himself on his legs, and he quickly found himself regretting the minutes he spent tormenting Orpheus with them. Okay, that wasn’t true, but his conscience was certainly making an argument for it. The Fates had curious ways indeed.
Zagreus clutched at Achilles’ arm, laughing helplessly and writhing as those fingers crawled up and down his stomach.
The shade chuckled, pressing his palms against his student’s sides. “Honestly, lad, you could at least pretend to put up a better fight. Are you sure there’s nothing you need to talk about?”
“It isn’t important!” Zagreus insisted through giggles, resting an arm over his face.
That didn’t mean it was nothing though. Achilles rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Well, if you’re sure. While I have you though…” He hummed, pressing one hand to the stone under them as he turned. He glanced curiously over the prince’s feet, the heat radiating off of them seeming to fluctuate as he settled himself. “You mentioned once that you couldn’t feel the new rug you bought for your room, didn’t you?”
Zagreus blushed a bit at the memory and chuckled. “Yes, hardly a change at all. I could tell the difference by pressure, but I was at least hoping the texture w—Hey!” His voice had escaped as a squeak when one of Malphon’s metal digits pressed firmly into his sole and zipped up toward his toes.
“You felt that, I take it?” Achilles laughed a bit, hooking his fingers into both of his feet and raking them up and down. Zagreus broke immediately, laughing loudly and trying to reach his back with one hand.
“I’m afraid you’re a bit too tall for that one these days, lad.” Achilles taunted when the prince just barely hooked his robes, dragging his fingers up through the prince’s toes until he was squealing.
“I yield; I yield, sir, please!” Zagreus cried out, trying to squirm with a bit more earnest.
Achilles chuckled softly and paused, pushing himself up to stand over him. “I will admit that was quite a bit of fun. It would seem these are more effective as weapons than I originally thought.”
He offered a hand, and Zagreus rolled his eyes and reached to take it, only to scald his hand on the heated metal gauntlets. “Ouch…” He hissed, yanking his hand back and looking it over.
Achilles couldn’t help laughing, removing one gauntlet to offer his bare hand and patting his shoulder before going to place Malphon in its spot. “Apologies, prince. Now, then… Perhaps you’d be interested in more traditional training?”
Zagreus rested his hands on his hips. “Well, sir, that depends.” He reached out, calling Varatha into his hand. “How quickly can you arm yourself?”
The shade smirked, taking a stance and leading his opponent in a short circle. “Energetic as always…”
“As always, indeed. …And thank you, sir.”
Month of Miracles Day 4 - In the spirit
Find the prompt list here!
Stupid, Marinette fumed as she climbed out of her car. Stupid Audrey and her stupid insane work schedule and her stupid criticism, stupid Adrien and his stupid handsome face and his stupid perfect new girlfriend, and stupid Maman sending her off to grandma’s like she was still a little kid—and stupid grandma, not even being here!
And stupid Rose, being all sweet and friendly and nice and showing her around town, being so kind and making it so Marinette couldn’t say no when Rose asked her to go pick out a Christmas tree for the library, because for some reason the little town library couldn’t possibly just use a fake tree like every other library in the world and besides, Marinette, it’ll do you some good to get in the spirit! Slow down from that crazy city pace!
She stalked up the stupid hill, looking around at the stupid—well, she couldn’t call it a forest because forest trees didn’t grow in straight lines. This wasn’t a forest, she reminded herself, it was a farm, a Christmas tree farm, and it looked huge to her city-slicker eyes.
Well, she was here. Now what was she supposed to do?
“Does anybody actually work here?” Marinette muttered irritably, glaring up at the tree nearest her.
“Can I help you?” a dry voice asked from right behind her, and Marinette whirled to find a tall man with dark hair standing there. He tossed his head slightly, knocking his bangs back out of surprisingly blue eyes that quickly darted over her. When she said nothing, he cocked an eyebrow at her, sticking his thumbs in his pockets.
“Oh,” she gasped. “Hi. My name’s M-M-Marinette? Um. I’m looking for a Christmas tree?”
“Well, you’re in the right place,” the man drawled, eyes flicking to the rows of trees beside him. “Any particular kind?”
“Uh…” Marinette blinked, not even knowing what her options were.
The second eyebrow joined the first, and the corner of his mouth twitched in amusement. Marinette felt a flush of embarrassment, and maybe something else. He’d be cute if he wasn’t laughing at her. He got his expression under control quickly though and suggested mildly, “Maybe a size?”
“Oh,” Marinette thought back to the curtains in the library. They looked like 95 inches which meant the ceiling was probably 10 feet, and they’d need clearance for the topper... “Between eight and nine feet?” she guessed.
The man gave her a customer service smile and tilted his head. “Follow me.”
Marinette did, trying to keep up with his longer legs without twisting an ankle or tripping over a tree root. “You down from the city?” he asked casually as she trailed after him through the trees.
“Yes,” Marinette replied distractedly. “Apparently I’m stressed,” she made a face. “So my mother told my Nonna Gina I’d watch her place while she’s out of the country. She thought it would do me some good to get away for awhile.” She shut her mouth quickly, realizing that he probably didn’t want to hear her whole life story.
“Gina Dupain?” he asked, and Marinette blinked.
“Yes, you know her?”
“Yeah, she’s friends with my mom. Quite a character,” he grinned, and stopped, turning to face her. “Funny, you don’t seem like her at all.”
Marinette huffed and rolled her eyes. “I’m not sure whether that’s a compliment or not.”
The man laughed, and she felt a little warm. It was a nice laugh.
“Neither am I,” he chuckled. “Gina’s a character.” He gestured to the trees beside him. “All the ones on this row and the next are between eight and nine feet. Douglas on this end, blue spruce down there, and Frasier fir towards the back.”
He was smiling for real when he looked back at her, and Marinette blinked. Something about that smile and the tilt of his head and way his hair fell—although it was all black instead of tipped with color the way it had been the last time she’d seen one of his posters—
“Wait, you’re—” Marinette’s eyes swept over him again, in disbelief this time, over the plaid shirt visible under his open coat, down to the tattered, frayed cuffs of his clearly ancient jeans hanging over stained boots. Still, when her eyes found his face again, there was no doubt. “You’re Luke Stone!”
His smile turned brittle. “It’s Luka Couffaine, actually. Luke Stone doesn’t exist anymore.”
“Luka!” a deep but clearly female voice bellowed from somewhere beyond the lines of trees.
“Be right there, Ma!” Luka shouted back. He looked back at her and smirked. “I’ll send someone to check on you in a few minutes. See you around, M-M-Marinette.”
Marinette blushed at the tease, pouting. “Jerk,” she muttered under her breath, putting her nose in the air with a little sniff. “As if I have time for all this Christmas stuff anyway. I’m just going to pick a stupid tree and go.” She turned and faced the row of trees with determination...and then slumped, her frustrated breath coming out in a cloud of white. “Stupid Rose,” she muttered to herself. “Stupid Christmas.”
Linked Wilderness (Part 1)
More Linked Universe featuring Wild and his sister! ... Wait, what sister?
I was going to do Sky next but this idea popped into my head and I couldn’t type it fast enough. Whoops?
“Soooo...” Twilight tapped his foot impatiently, “Are we in your world or not, cub?”
Wild frowned, trying his Sheikah slate for the hundredth time. “I mean, that’s Twin Peaks and that certainly looks like my Hyrule Castle in the distance.” He slammed his hand against the tablet, “But this thing isn’t working and there should be a shrine right there,” he pointed at an empty clearing near their current stable. “Also, I don’t recognize anyone here.”
“And that’s odd because...?” Sky asked.
Wild blushed. “Well, I’m pretty sure I’ve talked to everyone in existence in my Hyrule. Usually the strangers are Yiga in disguise. But even the stable owner is different!”
“So...” Time stood up from sharpening his blade. He slung the sword on his back and then crossed his arms, “This Hyrule could be yours in the future. So... a new hero?”
Legend rolled his eyes, “Seriously? We haven’t had a new member in months!”
“But it is a possibility,” Four replied, his eyes flashing violet for a second. “Maybe we should talk to someone?”
Wild hesitated. “Stables have people that come and go. The owner might have sold the place to another person. Not to mention that many people are coming back to Hyrule because the Calamity is gone. Let’s head to Hateno. It’s only half a day from here. We can figure it out from there.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Wild was very confused. On one hand, this was very much his Hyrule. On the other, there were too many differences to ignore.
The ruins looked “newer”, there were less travelers (and those that were traveling were very suspicious of the nine-band group), it felt like there were more enemies, and there were guardians.
Full-working guardians that wanted nothing more than to kill Wild again.
He really hated guardians.
Therefore the alleged “half-day” turned into a full day, with the battered and beaten group grumbling up to Hateno. No serious injuries (Four had most likely broken his ankle) but a night of rest sounded much too nice after the insanity of the day.
A blonde woman stood guard at the foot of town. Wild frowned at the sight of her. He did not recognize her. She wore a light pink tunic, tied with a turquoise sash. There was some old knight armor on her right arm and a light chainmail skirt that went to her knees. Under the mail, she wore simple trousers and boots. A sword was strapped to her side, along with a quiver and bow on her back.
The blonde watched the group approach, clearly on guard. “Halt and state your business!” She called out when they reached a respectful distance.
Wild stepped forward, “We’re looking for a place to rest.” He was not sure if he should bring up the fact that he owned a house in the village. He was not even sure if the house would be his, at this point.
The girl’s eyes widened at Wild. Her mouth dropped open and the color drained from her skin. Her drawn sword dropped every so slightly. She did not speak for a moment, only gaping is shock.
Wild shifted uncomfortably. “Uh... are you alright, miss?”
Her expression turned hard, her next words a hiss. “How dare you.”
Wild flinched, despite himself. Something inside his gut twisted into tight knots. He didn’t like the girl upset. He wanted her to smile. His words were stuck in his throat and when he opened his mouth, nothing came out.
The girl brandished her sword at the group, her intentions very clear. “Leave now and I’ll grant you your lives you filthy traitors!”
Time put out his hands in surrender. “We’re not here to fight, nor do we wish you harm. But we have injured and need--”
“We don’t help Yiga here,” the girl hissed, her sword raising again. “Go back to your filth.”
Wild’s brain was too confused to make sense of what was happening.
Twilight stepped forward, “We’re no Yiga.” His gaze was suspicious. “Although, I’m beginning to suspect you are.”
The girl physically recoiled at the accusation. “I’m not the one with a fake hero!”
Legend and Twilight both growled in anger at that comment, the latter stepping in front of Wild in a protective matter. Several of the other Links came to the immediate defense of Wild, and at least one of them drew a sword.
“Link has given more--”
“--you little--”
“--dare you insinuate something so--”
“Wild is a good man!”
The girl was practically radiating anger now, her sword replaced with a bow at the blink of the eye. She roared, “MY BROTHER IS DEAD!” then loosed a warning shot that missed Hyrule by an inch. “NOW LEAVE BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND!”
Wild’s scrambling mind came to a screeching halt at that.
Brother?
The rest of the group had a similar reaction, with most of them stepping back a few paces. Wind looked like he had been slapped, “You never said you had a sister!”
Wild’s head was starting to hurt. He squeezed his eyes shut and heard his current sword slam into the ground. “I... I don’t...” His hands came up and grasped his hair, “I don’t... I don’t... I don’t.” The headache suddenly spiked into a piercing flare. He dropped to his knees and actually screamed at the white, hot, dagger that was attempting to cut through the memory fog.
Someone was talking but all Wild could see was white and pain. This wasn’t right. Nothing was right. What in Hylia’s name was happening to him?
The last thing he remembered before succumbing to the white was a very soft voice.
“Big brother?”
--------------------------------------------------------
It took much too long to get Wild inside his house.
Wind was helping the injured Four hobble across the wooden bridge to the very familiar house in Hateno... only this one did not have a sign that labeled the owner. In fact, this one had a horse in the stables.
Said horse cried out at the sight of the unconscious Wild. She trotted forward and blocked the path, licking and nuzzling his face in concern.
The sister hadn’t said a word since the gates, but she did so now. “Epona, dear, we need to get him inside.”
Wind suspected he wasn’t the only one who’s eyebrows shot up at that name, but no one said anything about it.
Epona nuzzled Wild one more time before trotting back her food.
“Good girl,” the sister smiled. She opened the front door. “Lay him near the fireplace. I’ll start up a fire.”
--------------------------------------------------------
It took time to explain the group to Wild’s sister. She hadn’t interrupted once during the tale, nor had she stopped dabbing Wild’s forehead with a wet cloth. Time took point on the story, with people chiming in when they thought it important. Twilight explained what he knew about Wild’s adventure, including the amnesia thing.
The sister had taken it all in, in silence. When the tale finally ended, she remained silent for a long time. Gentle hands traced the scars on Wild’s face, tears filling her eyes. “So... my brother is somewhere in a cave right now on the Great Plateau... asleep?”
Time hesitated for a moment, cursing whoever made the portals and Hylia who had dropped them in Wild’s world. They had just gone back about a hundred years. It explained the increased Guardian activity, the lack of Shekiah technology, and, of course, the long forgotten sister. “I would assume so, miss. Yes.”
She closed her eyes and breathed out slowly. Tears streamed freely down her cheeks and a few broken sobs broke free.
Wind stood up and pulled the girl into a hug. She buried her face in his tunic and cried. The rest of the group quietly tended to Four’s leg and let her mourn.
The sobs slowed and she gently pulled back from Wind, a soft smile on her face. “Thank you... um...”
“Wind,” the boy smiled back. “I have a little sister too.”
“Oh!” the girl leaped to her feet. “Where are my manners, you all must be hungry! And I haven’t even introduced myself or asked for your names or--” she cut herself off, blushing furiously. “I’m Rhea**.”
The Links introduced themselves while Rhea started on dinner. Good cooking skills appeared to run in the family because Rhea’s stew smelled heavenly. Legend commented on this and Rhea smiled. “Mother taught Link, who then taught me.” Her smiled died a little. “I’m glad to hear he remembers some things...”
“What was Wild like? As a child?” Warriors leaned forward, eager.
Rhea thought for a moment. “Well... he’s always been a bit wild.” She laughed, “Did you know he was appointed as the princess’s knight because he deflected a laser from a runaway guardian with a pot lid?”
Twilight coughed up his stew. “He what???”
“It’s true!” Rhea laughed. “Link has always had an affinity for turning cooking tools into weapons.”
“Oh Hylia,” Legend groaned into his hands. “Please tell me the ladle thing hasn’t always been around?”
“It’s one of my first memories,” Rhea giggled. “Big brother Link keeping a stray moblin at bay with nothing but a wooden ladle... at least until father came in with his actual sword.”
Several Links groaned in annoyance.
Perhaps it was the familiar sound that stirred Wild. He moaned loudly, causing a hush to fall over the group. Rhea grabbed a bowl of the stew and hurried to his side.
Wild opened his eyes, blinking into the fire. He jolted back from it out of pure instinct.
Rhea did not say anything, but put a hand on his shoulder. When Wild looked at her, she smiled and then gave him the bowl of stew. He looked at it suspiciously, before taking a small sip. His eyes widened and he quickly downed the rest of it.
Rhea appeared pleased. ‘I take that you like it?’
Wild started at the sign. It took a moment for the motions to process before nodding. ‘Yes.Thank you, ma’am.’
Rhea’s smile fell.
No one knew what to say. Wild looked around “his” house, clearly confused. The table was shoved in the corner, two beds were shoved against the wall, and there was no weapon displays on the walls.
“Where are we?” he asked no one in particular.
Twilight felt a stab of sympathy for Rhea. He knew all to well the pains of a sibling not recognizing you. “Cub... there’s no easy way to say this.” He pointed at the girl. “This is Rhea. Do you recognize her?”
Wild tilted his head and narrowed his eyes, clearly concentrating. “You were the guard at the gate.”
Rhea nodded, the expression stiff.
“Good,” Twilight encouraged. “Anything else about her seem... familiar?”
Wild squinted even harder. He rubbed his temples. After a long silence he finally sighed. “No.” He looked guilty. “Should I?”
Wind jumped up, clearly angry. “She’s your little sister, Wild! How could you ever forget her?”
“Wind!” Time reprimanded.
Wild blinked, looking back at Rhea. She waved, timidly before slipping into sign. ‘They told me what happened to you. I am sorry.’
“Are... are you really my sister?”
‘Yes,’ Rhea sighed heavily. ‘Although, it has been several years since your... disappearance. I have grown since then.’ She smiled. ‘I was only this tall when you last saw me.’ She held up her hand about a foot lower then her current height. ‘I was only eight. Now I am seventeen.’
Wild scrunched up his face again. He thought and thought and thought, before sighing. “I don’t remember... I’m sorry. Truely, I am.”
‘It’s fine,’ Rhea’s smile looked forced, but she did not appear angry. ‘I’ll go get more firewood. You rest.’ Then she turned and left the house.
Wild buried his face in his hands and moaned.
Twilight quickly sat down next to him. “It is okay, Wild. It is not your fault. She does not blame you for what happened.” He glared in the direction of Wind, “You have no control over your memories.”
Wind was receiving a very harsh and very quiet reprimand from both Warriors and Time. He looked sorry and had his head down in shame. The kid really needed to learn to think before he spoke.
Twilight turned his attention back to his prodege. “Think about it this way: now you can learn things about your past that you didn’t even know. Maybe the memories will come back, maybe they won’t. But do not give up hope. Alright?”
Wild looked down at his hands. He slowly looked up to reveal the tiniest of smiles. “Alright... Her name was Rhea, right?”
“Right,” Twilight smiled. “And you taught her to be an excellent cook.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------
**-Okay, so I didn’t want to go with Linkle as the name (because who names their kids Link and Linkle. Seriously?) and I thought Aryll was the generic fall back for Wild’s sister’s name (just because Link’s spirit is reborn and always named Link does not mean his sister suffers the same fate). I did look into a few fanfictions to see what they went (and didn’t like any that I found), so I looked up names that meant something to do with nature. Rhea was the Greek goddess of “the mountain wilds” and I thought it suited her well enough.
On a semi-random note: did you all know that “Zelda” is a an old German name that means “dark battle”??? At least, according to the website I was on.
Also, stayed tuned for part 2!
Also part 3...
• you stare at him bewildered and horrified.
• dizzy nonetheless.
• you slap him square on the face and the horror on yours mirrors on him.
• “You can call me stupid. Ugly. Fucking mental for making friends I think are nice.” you start vicious and torn, “But I’m not gonna let you call me a whore. Not with the mouth I let you kiss me with.”
• he gives up and so do you.
• “Why do you hate me now?” you continue your questions as if his answer might help.
• you cry the last tears knowing this was it.
• you had to say goodbye.
• “Maybe you can find somebody that’ll be okay with your deluded shit. Find somebody to kiss, that’ll let you call them a whore.” you grab your things and turn on your heel. “But I’m done.”
• as he watches you leave, he doesn’t think about following you.
• he knows it hurts.
• that for someone he’s loved for so long slowly changes over the years.
• enough for him to slowly hate you.
• “I loved you, you know?” he whispers when you’re halfway through the door, broken and hard voice when he says the last words. “Loved you before you changed.”
• you close the door behind you.
• because you slowly start to think you didn’t change..
• or maybe did you?
• “I-I’m sorry, guys. I’m not really in the mood to drink tonight.”
• they sneer a half hearted smile before telling you. “That’s okay. We don’t need you for tonight, anyway. See you tomorrow, y/n!”
• it took around,
• a day?
• a day for you to realize Wooyoung was right.
• how your friends started to change you.
• that you’ve become blind cause of the city life.
• and it’s been about a year?
• since you moved to Seoul and now you want to move back home where life wasn’t hard for you.
• and it’s been about 6 months since you last heard from or saw your ex boyfriend.
• “Hey. Happy birthday, y/n.”
• you’re holding your pillows crying a river while your sister calls you from home.
• you crying so hard, your heart hurts.
• and unlike a couple months ago, you don’t have anyone to wipe the tears away.
• “I want to go home.” you tell her and she feels your regret, your pain.
• “I w-want to leave and never come back. That coming here for Wooyoung was a mistake cause he’s not even here anymore.”
• “You need to get over him. He’s not going to just come back, y/n. If he was, he would’ve been there with you already. You pushed him too far.”
• “I know..”
• “Then suck it up.”
• you feel like the worlds against you.
• you have a 14 hour shift in a couple hours and you’re about ready to topple over.
• you have about five new patients, piled up logs and checklists before you hear a new patient is here with a fractured ankle who’s requested you.
• the world was definitely against you right now.
• “I’ll always be here. Even if I’m not there, okay?” your sister tells you.
• you sigh, “Okay yeah. Yeah okay.”
• you think maybe this was your breaking point.
• you close the browser tab opened with the title REQUEST FOR TRANSFER after sending it without your sister knowing.
• it’s time you go home.
• “I can’t believe you’re leaving.” your coworker, and now only friend, someone Wooyoung wasn’t present for, hugs you while she helps you buy some things for your flight home.
• chuckling you say, “I can’t stay.”
• “Just because he never stayed huh?”
•you sigh thinking it’s past you when it’s not.
• “Ugh! I can’t believe you. Why didn’t you tell him that you came here for him?”
• “Are you crazy?” you laugh leaning over her to pay. “I couldn’t have just told him that. He never would’ve let me come.”
• “Yeah but if he had known you busted your ass to get your job maybe he wouldn’t have—“ she stops herself while you think.
• you just want to go home.
• want to forget you loved Wooyoung enough to sacrifice everything just for him.
• “Maybe he wouldn’t have left you like that. You learned your lesson. He didn’t even have the decency of trying to come back to you. Trying to make it work again.”
• you chuckle as she cuddles into your side like a koala. “You’re ridiculous.”
• “I cant believe ANYONE— anyone would ever leave you when you’re always so giving. Always give too much for your own good.”
• “Well that’s why we broke up remember?”
• “That’s not what I remember.”
• your lips part because—
• that voice wasn’t your best friend.
• dause she was gawking, staring in horror behind you not even blinking.
• you whip around with the same expression and he just laughs.
• looking gorgeous as ever, his friends behind him with matching expressions with yours.
• “Long time no see, y/n.”
• you freeze.
• and your friend beside you innocently tugs at your sleeve, “Is that him?”
• you nod violently beside her. “Yup.”
• “Do we run?” she whispers.
• “We should.”
• Wooyoung’s smiling.
• smiling cause it’s nice to see you made a friend that isn’t someone he remembered. someone who makes you as bright as he did once.
• not the way you glowed with people who you basically slaved to.
• “Why’s he smiling?”
• you look back at your friend and lightly slap her. “How am I supposed to know?!l”
• “He’s your ex!”
• “That doesn’t mean I know!”
• he watches you.
• doesn’t say a word actually even if his friends are standing behind him confused, head tilting and lips smiled.
• heart warmed to see you like this again.
• not the same girl he left behind.
• the same girl he fell in love with.
• “Tell him!”
• “Tell him what?”
• he’s amused that you two whisper but are standing right in front of him.
• reminds him of the both of you a couple years ago when the love was still there.
• “Tell him you’re leaving!”
• you mentally face palm before your friend’s hand goes to her lips. “Whoops.”
• “You’re leaving?”
• it can’t possibly be because of him, he hopes.
• “Y-yeah. Tomorrow.” you mumble nudging at your friend.
• you blush, hands shaking and nervous.
• he remembers when he first met you.
• how you looked when he did.
• when he asked for your number at a random hotel in Jeju.
• “Wait— W-why are you leaving?”
• “Tell him.”
• he looks at your friend again. “Tell me what?”
• you’re lost in his eyes when she pushes you against him.
• he feels new. like a fresh start almost.
• “Y/n, tell me what?”
• “Fuck with this crap already,” your friend rolls her eyes behind and admits, “She came here for you, you idiot! Now tell her not to leave.”
• he’s stunned.
• millions of things were running in his mind.
• — thousands of questions but one expression.
• “I thought you said they offered you a job here.”
• you blink up at him not realizing the lack of space in between you two.
• you want to tell him so the last weight leaves your shoulders before you go back home.
• “You said they asked you to come here...”
• “I spent months.” you mumbled looking at his lips more than his eyes.
• wondering if he actually found someone that would kiss him after calling her a whore
• “Spent months um.. on a couple more courses just to wait a couple more on the waiting list. Couldn’t sleep a day or else I’d lose my place. Lose the knowledge if I didn’t pass the test. It took four tries actually.”
• he didn’t know.
• hell if he knew he wouldn’t have let you walk out of his life the way you ran obstacles to get to his.
• “You.. you what?”
• you softly smile returning back to your place by your friend.
• “This is Hyemi by the way.” you introduce the two to each other. “I met her after we broke up..”
• “Hi dickhead.”
• he looks back at you.
• “I met her after you left.. helped fill the void for a little but I want to go back home.”
• he’s distraught.
• heart hurting like it did months ago getting over you
• you spent all that effort, time, and torture just trying to get to Seoul.
• for him none the less.
• now he’s the reason you want to go home?
• he’s thinking cause he left you alone in a life that isn’t yours.
• it’s his.
• “Y/n, why didn’t you tell me?”
• “I didn’t want you to tell me to stop.”
• your smile only makes him fall for you again.
• the naivety, the generosity.
• why he loved you?
• because you always give— give him more than he needs sometimes.
• and it shows again after so long.
• “If I stopped doing what I was doing.. I wouldn’t have been able to come here and be with you. You always asked me to come to Seoul. And I wanted to do something for you.”
• hell, you always did.
• you always did too much for anyone.
• “Fucking hell, y/n. You idiot.” he mumbles. “Why would you do that?”
• you chuckle awkwardly. “Well.. at the time, I loved you. And at the time, I would’ve done anything for you.”
• he’s speechless.
• his friends are too—
• always thinking you were a little too much for him to handle.
• and they know now you are.
Mabel never thought the day would come when Grunkle Ford would ask her to go down to Earth. Sure, she was allowed to go visit as long as she was hidden and back at Olympus at a certain time, but she never thought she would be standing before her father-figure and be asked to specifically go down to Earth, but here she was.
“I… I want you to check on Stanley.” Grunkle Ford asked solemnly. “And Mason, too, for that matter. See if they’re alright.”
“Um… okay.” Mabel was a bit unsure if she dared believe his instructions. “You want me to go down there and pay them a visit?”
“No.” Grunkle Ford said. “I’m sorry, but no. I want to project yourself onto the art of Thebes and see if they’re alright. Bill says Stanley isn’t… with him, but he is very busy thanks to a small war in the Middle East. Do not make yourself known, simply see if they’re both okay.”
Mabel smiled slyly at him. “You want me to spy on our mortal family members?”
Grunkle Ford sighed and nodded. “Yes.”
“YES!” Mabel cheered and punched the air. “Finally, a chance to use my sneaky peaky spy skills!” And she ran out of the temple, tripping and breaking a vase along the way.
And so Mabel went down to Earth, traveling from statue to statue, painting to painting, floor art to floor art, all throughout Thebes. She had never been to the Big Olive and was excited to see the new place and to find Dipper and Stan’s home.
It was well into the night at this point. The stars twinkled and the night air was warm and soothing. Mabel thought he heard a familiar voice filled with laughter, and she looked down the street and grinned widely from the stem of a birdbath. She was ecstatic to see her brother on a date with a beautiful young lady; she decided to follow them and listen carefully. This was also good reassurance that Stan was okay; Dipper wouldn’t have left his side otherwise.
“Wow, what a day.” Dipper sighed. “Dinner by the ocean, that play… oh boy, I thought I had problems.”
Pacifica and Dipper both laughed, but one was having to force it more than the other. Slowly, steadily, Pacifica could feel herself becoming distracted. She had to focus. Her freedom was on the line. Still, as much of a nerd Wonderboy may be, able to tell the measurement of an item by glancing at it and solve impossible equations in his head in a second, he was actually a really nice guy. Getting tired of pretending, she decided to try a bit harder to find Dipper’s weakness so this whole thing could end.
Walking down some steps, Pacifica faked a trip at the last step. Dipper caught her swiftly and Pacifica winced. “Ugh, I think I stepped funny, landed on my ankle wrong.”
“Ouch,” Dipper sympathized. While he may have super god-like strength, that didn’t mean he never twisted an ankle or bent a wrist wrong, a small pain but no damage or hardly an injury. “Here, we can sit for a sec.” And he scooped her up gently and carried her to sit on the edge of a giant water fountain, the same water fountain Mabel was projecting herself into the heart of the small wall, eagerly hoping her twin would at least get a kiss.
“Oh. Thanks.” Pacifica was a bit taken back by his extra effort in manners, but quickly reminded herself that with strength like his picking up a girl was nothing. So she moved on with her plan. “So, do you have any issues with weak ankles?”
“Hm? Oh. No, not really.” Dipper chuckled.
Pacifica giggled alongside him and sat closer. “Really? No trick knee?” She asked slyly. “No bad shoulder?”
Dipper was blushing heavily, a bit uncomfortable with the praise and trying to remain humble as he gave an honest answer. “No, I’m… I’m pretty healthy…” And his smile dropped at remembering that the same couldn’t be said for Stan.
Pacifica rolled her eyes, ready to give up on her quest. Bill would just have to find some other way to kill him. She then noticed how down Dipper appeared, much more so than he had been all night, and before she realized what she was doing, she asked, “Hey, you okay?” Pacifica instantly bit her lip. Why did she say that? And why did she actually care?
Dipper looked at her with heavy eyes and sighed tiredly. “It’s Stan. He’s… He’s not well.”
Pacifica softened a little. “Oh. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.” Dipper looked up at the stars to make it easier to talk. “It’s just… he… I dunno. I was raised in an orphanage until I was twelve and went looking for him. Stan’s looked after me ever since, and… and he feels like family. I’ve never had one, and… it sometimes feels like he’s all I got.” Dipper was being very careful not to talk about the fact that he had a family waiting for him, but after only talking to Mabel here and there for so long, having never met them in the flesh or been at home, it sometimes felt like Stan was truly the only one there for him.
Pacifica scoffed and stood up to make some distance. “Family isn’t that great.”
Dipper blinked and stood to follow her down the street. “What do you mean?”
“I dunno, people just make such a big deal over families or whatever.” Pacifica complained. “It’s not all it’s cracked up to be. They’re just a bunch of people who would turn their backs on you just as quickly as anyone else.”
Dipper was a bit taken back by the harshness of her tone, but he shook it off to try to comfort someone who was clearly hurt. “That’s not true. Some families, sure, maybe. But not all families are like that.”
Pacifica gave him a sharp look. “How would you know?”
Dipper was a bit hurt by that, but it only made him more determined to change her mind. He took her hand as they were at the doorstep of his home, and he said firmly, “My family might be really small, and kinda broken, but it’s still an amazing family. We look after each other. We care for one another. And… And you could be a part of that.” Dipper bit his lip. Why did he say that? And why did he actually mean it?
It was Pacifica’s turn to be dumbstruck. She shook her clear to try to clear it and said, “I gotta go. Goodnight, hero.” And she kissed his hand, let go, and hurried down the street.
Dipper’s mouth was open so wide a fly nearly threw in, but luckily he coughed it out before he accidentally swallowed it. He brought his lucky hand up shakingly to smile at it, swearing he would never use it for anything ever again. Okay, maybe for one thing.
Mabel, meanwhile, knew that Pacifica liked Dipper and hurried after her, ready to perform a musical number to convince her to admit it and follow her heart and say she was in love, but as Pacifica hurried into the outdoor museum full of art, Mabel felt a chill go down her spine. She stopped at a brick wall-art of the sun and hid herself behind a bush, remembering her grunkle’s orders to stay hidden, just in case.
A small pyramid glowed yellow and with a small poof the triangle with a black toga appeared, smiling (as much as one can without a mouth) at Pacifica. Mabel stared, a little confused; this must be Grunkle Ford’s friend, the one Uncle Fiddleford didn’t seem to like very much. Instantly she could understand why Uncle Fiddleford didn’t like him, but so far Bill hasn’t done anything to learn Mabel’s dislike, so she kept an open-mind and listened.
“Hey-o, Llama, so whatcha got?”
“Nothing.” Pacifica said coldly, her arms crossed.
“Nothing?” Bill repeated.
“Nothing. No weak spot, no bad nerves, no tricks. Nothing. He has no weaknesses.”
Bill growled in his throat, floating back and forth in a pacing kind of way, his black hands behind his back. “No! Everybody’s got a weakness! We just gotta find it!” The demon stopped as he looked at a statue of a couple in love. “Maybe… Ugh, if only Sixer wasn’t so overprotective of Shooting Star. We could use her as bait.”
Pacifica snorted. “Yeah, good luck getting your hands on her.”
“But maybe…” Bill held his… well, he doesn’t have a chin, but he did put a hand to the front of his body in that type of manner. “... there’s someone we can get our hands on.”
“What?” Pacifica asked, not seeming bored for the first time in this entire conversation. “You mean Stan? I guess… Dipper did say he was like family.”
Bill cackled. “Oh, if only he knew.” The triangle gasped and punched his hand with the side of his fist in thought. “Hey! We can use that! Great work, Blondie. Now c’mon, we got a whole galaxy to conquer!” And he swooped himself and Pacifica away in a burst of blue fire.
Mabel had both hands over her mouth to keep herself quiet. She had so many questions and was confused on a few things, but she did know this: Bill wanted to hurt Dipper. Bill wanted to take over the galaxy. And he was lying to Grunkle Ford.
Without another thought, Mabel dashed as fast as she could for home. She accidentally gave herself such bad tunnel vision out of fear and desperation that she didn’t hesitate until she was at the entrance of her shared temple with her great-uncle. The young lady peered his office to find him hunched over his work, finding it hard to concentrate with the fate of his brother on his mind. Mabel didn’t know much about Bill, despite being a fellow god, but she did know that Ford considered him a friend, so this would be difficult news to deliver.
Mabel gently knocked on the column beside her to alert her guardian of her entrance. He turned and smiled genuinely at her. “Mabel, I’m happy to see you’re home safe. How… How is Stanley?”
Mabel winced; she had completely forgotten to check on her long-distance uncle in the excitement of her brother’s date and the harsh discovery. “Grunkle Ford, I need to tell you something.”
Immediately Ford feared the worst. It was too late. He would never see Stan again, and it was all his fault. Mabel sat on the desk and took his six-fingered hands. He bit his lip and braced himself as Mabel looked down, trying to find her words. After a moment or two that nearly killed the immortal god, the young muse asked carefully, “Bill… Is he your friend?”
Ford felt the wind being kicked out of him from the shock. He could have cried, he was so relieved, but instead he laughed and nodded. “Yes! Yes, my dear, Bill is an old friend of mine. If it wasn’t for him, the world would still be in complete chaos. My leadership position, and really the existence of you and your brother, is all thanks to him. He helped me save the world.” He praised.
Mabel looked even more nervous; Ford had hoped that this answer would assure any worry she had, but clearly this wasn’t the case. Before the god could ask what was wrong, the muse said quietly, “I think he only helped you save it so he could have it someday.”
Ford blinked like a confused owl at her. “What… What are you talking about?”
“I… I think… no, I’m sure that…”
“STANFOOOOOOOOORD!”
Mabel and Ford turned to the direction of the call and ran for the exit of their temple. They watched Fiddleford use his super speed to dash to them, pale and stuttering with fear. “HONEY FOGELIN’, SALT-LICKIN’ SKULLDUGGERY! OH, WE’RE IN TROUBLE! OH!”
“Fiddleford, buddy, calm down.” Ford gripped him by the shoulders to give him a chance to breathe and adjust his small glasses. “What’s the matter?”
“We’ve got an army o’ monsters that are practically at our gates!” Fiddleford informed. “There’s only a few minutes until Olympus is overrun!”
“What?! Alert the other gods! Prepare for a counter attack! Go, go!”
“Gone, babe.” Fiddleford said sarcastically with a roll of his eyes and ran as fast as possible as he blew his trumpet loudly throughout Olympus.
“Mabel, sweetie, I want you to go keep an eye on your brother.”
“But…”
Ford whistled loudly and the giant goat, Gompers, came trotting toward. Ford lifted her like a child and ignored her kicking and squirming. “Grunkle Ford!”
“I’m not asking!” Ford growled and gave her a firm look. “I can’t lose you! I just can’t! Now I’m ordering you to go check on M-... on Dipper. Now go!” And he smacked Gompers to make him gallop off the mountain and down to the mortal world.
~~~~~~~~~~
Just a few minutes after Dipper arrived back home, thinking about his amazing date with Pacifica, he decided to check on Stan. After making sure he was nowhere else in the luxurious house, Dipper gently knocked on his teacher’s bedroom door. “Stan? You okay?”
Praying the old man was at least wearing a toga, he carefully opened the door, but was a little surprised to find the bed empty. After a quick look around the lavish bedroom, Dipper concluded that Stan wasn’t here. He closed the door and turned away, wondering if Stan had gone outside for some fresh air, but was suddenly greeted by a high-pitched laughter and the lit torches made of stone were now blue. Dipper looked all over and was startled to find a huge golden triangle with one eye staring at him.
“Hey there, kid, name’s Bill, big guy of the Underworld, nice to meet you.” Bill said, a smooth-fast talker like a chariot salesman.
“Uh, hi.” Dipper greeted with a small, hesitant wave. There was no way the Ruler of the Underworld, the most mysterious god of them all, would be paying him a visit unless it was important or he wanted something.
“So, listen, Pinetree,” Bill said, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and floating alongside him, walking like they were old friends catching up. “I’m an old friend of your great-uncle, Stanford. He’s a fun guy, great god, you’re a lot like him, you know that? Anyway, so, as a friend of the family, I need a favor from you.”
Dipper wasn’t sure what to make of this. This was his first time meeting a god apart from Mabel, and now to be needed by one was a bit confusing. Why now? Was it possible he was on his way to becoming a true hero? Was he almost a god again? Was this a test? He smiled nervously and shrugged. “Uh, sure, what do you need?”
“Oh, boy, look at this guy! A real trooper he is! You’re alright, Sixer Jr!” Bill laughed and clapped his shoulder. “Now, I would be eternally grateful if you took a day off from this hero gig. I mean, c’mon, monsters, natural disasters…”
All hope that this visit was a good thing died. Dipper scowled and shook his head, shoving Bill’s hand off his shoulder. There was one reason and one reason only someone would want him to stop being a hero, even if it was only for a short time. “No way…”
“Not so fast,” Bill said coolly and he locked his own fingers cunningly. “Cuz I have something that might change your mind.” And he snapped his fingers.
Out of thin air an old man appeared in chains, on his knees. “Stan!” Dipper gasped.
“Dipper, what the h-...” And more chains covered his mouth.
Dipper ran for his teacher but Stan was gone before the young hero could help. “Let him go!” He dove for Bill, but only fell through him, like the demon was made of mist.
“Here’s the deal: you give up your strength for the next twenty-four hours,” And Bill snapped his fingers again and Stan reappeared, gagged and trapped. “And Knucklehead here is as free as a bird and safe, we dance, we kiss, we schmooze, we go home happy. Whatcha say, c’mon?”
Dipper stared at Stan, who was shaking his head. The young man looked away and then back at Bill. “People are gonna get hurt, aren’t they?”
“Nah,” Bill dragged, flicking his wrists downward and then instantly shrugging with his hands behind his back. “I mean, maybe, there’s a possibility, it happens cuz, y’know, life sucks. So what?” The triangle joined Stan and cupped his face teasingly. “Isn’t your great uncle more important than they are?”
Dipper opened his mouth to order him to stop, but his jaw fell and his voice was stolen from him. Bill smiled excitingly and asked, “Oo, struck a nerve, did I?” He laughed maliciously. “You seriously didn’t know he’s Sixer’s brother?! Oh, man! This is sad! Ever wondered why he had a grudge against Fordsie? Ever wondered why he even gave a worthless orphan the time of day to begin with? It’s cuz he only barely cared cuz you’re blood. Duh.”
“You’re lying.” Dipper said firmly. “Stan, he’s making it up, isn’t he?” He begged, his brown eyes on Stan, the same eyes that matched his own. “Because… you would have told me if it’s true… wouldn’t you?”
Stan looked away.
“Daw, don’t blame him, kid. It’s not his fault you didn’t inherit Mr. Lightning Bolt’s brains. Now, c’mon, you really wanna lose another pwecious famwy member?”
“OKAY!” Dipper yelled to get Bill to fall silent. There was a moment of pause and Stan stared at his nephew. “Okay… okay… But you gotta swear Stan won’t get hurt.”
“Fine, whatever. Stan won’t get hurt.” Bill said and walked towards the birthmarked hero, leaving Stan alone for a moment. “Otherwise you’ll get your strength right back, fine print, blah blah blah. It’s a deal?” And he held out a hand encased in blue fire.
Dipper hesitated, looking down at it, and that made Bill a little irritated, a dangerous game to play. Bill withdrew his hand. “Y’know I really don’t have time to bat this around, I got places to be, people to see, I need an answer, like, now. Going once, going twice…”
"It's a deal!" And Dipper ceased Bill's hand.
At once, the demon's thumb sharpened, cutting into Dipper's hand and seemed to be sucking the strength out of him. The young man sagged and Stan fought harder than ever to break free, but it was too late. Bill let Dipper go and he fell to his knees like a puppet with his strings cut off. One could say Dipper should have made sure he agreed to only give away his "god-like" strength, rather simply "strength," for this loophole left Dipper far weaker than any man, arguably weaker than an infant.
Bill cackled as he held his three-sided body and wiggled his legs in joy. "Thanks for the favor, Pinetree! Now if you'll excuse me, there's an entire cosmos out there with my name on it! Oh! Right, can't forget." Bill snapped his fingers and Stan was set free from his chains. "The guy ashamed to be your family is all yours, hero."
He instantly ran to Dipper's hunched-over body and rubbed his back. "Easy, buddy boy, I got you. It's okay."
Dipper swatted his hands away and groaned from the effort. "Stan… why… why didn't you say…"
Stan was hurt, but pushed it aside to focus on how hurt his nephew was. He rubbed the back of his neck. "I… I wanted to. Believe me, kid, I wanted to, but… I couldn't."
"Oh, and one more thing. Lil'Llama, thanks for the info." Bill sneered, curling a finger from the shadows to himself, and his slave emerged with her head down in shame. "A deal's a deal, you're free to go."
Dipper stared, heartbroken more so than ever. "Pacifica?"
"Hey, that's the blonde damsel from the river." Stan growled. "Tramp. C'mon, Dipper, let's get you to…"
"Don't." Dipper snapped as he steadily got to his own feet. "I… I can take care of myself…"
Stan withdrew his hand and took a step back, letting Dipper hold himself up by leaning on a column, catching his breath. The proud uncle bit his lip and was distracted from his misery and shame when a big bang could be heard outside.
He stood outside his home and his mouth was open as the sky was an unnatural sea of colors and the ocean was raging with waves that seemed to make everything it touched weird. Bushes were coming to life and eating ghosts. Old women were being turned into furniture. Men were going delusional and eating their togas. Stan cringed at the weirdness, and it only got worse when some big goblin-looking monster with Eight Ball eyes was bringing havoc to Thebes.
~~~~~~~~~~
The planets aligning created a weak spot in the dimension, and in the depths of the sea, Bill peered down and could practically see his old minions in the Nightmare Realm. “My friends!” He called, pointing a finger at the weak spot and tearing a whole in space-time. “We finally have a new home, boys! But one guy stands in our way. An obnoxious poindexter with six fingers. So, since I’ve given you guys a stable home, whatcha gonna do about it?”
“DESTROY HIM!”
“Good answer.”
And so, when Fiddleford was disturbed from his nightly slumber on a low cloud outside of Olympus, he screamed and ran as fast as he could to alter his friend and the leader of the gods. Huge monsters scaled the mountain. Flying eyeballs flew like bats and screeched, turning fighting gods into stone and flying them away.
With Mabel gone and no longer terrified for her safety, Ford stood on a tall cloud just inside the gates of his home and shot down bolts of lightning with his golden crossbow. The monsters were sturdy, and while the attacks did slow them down, the battle was not looking good for the gods. Ford caught his breath and was very disturbed when a giant gray-blue loaf of bread with arms and legs but no face broke down the gates.
“What’s our status?!” Ford asked his best friend.
“Everyone’s bein’ turned t’stone!” Fiddleford yelled as an eyebat shined a beam down at him. “Even me!”
“NO!” Ford threw his last bolt at the eyebat, but it swerved out of the way and scooped up Fiddleford’s frozen body.
Ford looked left and right, waiting for an idea to come to him, but he was too clouded with anxiety and worry that he failed to notice the huge, now three-dimensional demon behind him. “Fordsie, I’m home.” A shrill voice sang.
“Bill?” Ford breathed, his eyes narrowing in anger and he shook with rage. He should have listened to Mabel and knew he was behind this. He growled like an angry bulldog and tried to throw a punch, but with a lift of a finger Bill had total control over Ford’s body and made him float lifelessly in front of him.
“Well well, looks like you truly are as dumb as you look. Tell me, did you really think such a powerful being would ever be friends with a six-fingered monster?” Bill laughed evilly and moved two arms close, creating lava and ice to work together to encase Ford in a stony prison. “This dimension is mine, Sixer, and it’s all thanks to you.” He said as Ford climbed and crawled to try to escape, but was steadily being encased, like quicksand. “Now all I need to do is make sure those brats stay out of my way.”
“NO! NO!” Ford screamed. “NOT MY KIDS, YOU CA-...” And he was completely covered.
“I’m the one giving orders now, Freak.” Bill sneered and sat in his new throne the eyebats had made for him, made entirely out of gods and goddesses. “And I think I’m gonna like it here.”
I wish you would write a Leon fic.. that's it. That's the message 😅
Scene Partners: Leon X Reader
Thank you for the request @misskittysmagicportal.  I love Leon.  I hope I’m doing him justice.
Summary: After Leon’s ill fated role as Neil Armstrong in the fake moon landing, he decided that fancy acting classes would be just the thing to launch (pun intended) his career as a serious actor.
Warning: Very irresponsible and spontaneous smut (Please use protection IRL) 18+ and suggested assault of a character within a play.  I hid the smut under the ‘read more’. These warnings make it sound heavier than it is...it’s actually super light and fun.
________________________________________________________
Johnny looked at Leon incredulously. “Where are you going at 10:00 AM on a Thursday morning?”
Leon looked his best mate in the eye and lied. “The pub, of course.”
In fact, this was the first day in months he wasn’t drunk or high...Alright, maybe just a toke or two to take the edge off. He even washed his hair and put on a turtleneck because that is what serious actors wore. Leon had lied and stumbled his way into a local university Theatre School, financing his tuition with a fraudulent cheque.
It was only an introductory scene workshop for beginners, but after watching the real Neil Armstrong walk on the Moon, Leon aspired to do great things. He arrived at the theatre more or less on time and with an inflated sense of purpose. It smelled like dust and leather and old wood. Framed photographs of former students lined the hallowed halls. Nervousness began to set in. He felt like an imposter, just like he did when Johnny had asked him to impersonate Stanley Kubrick some months ago. Accept this time, the only thing he had to impersonate was a man with confidence. After a brief internal struggle, Leon decided that he would go to the pub after all. There was always next Thursday.
As he reached for the door, a young woman had just entered, shaking the rain off her umbrella. Seeing how cute she was, Leon immediately changed course.
“Are you here for the workshop?,” she asked politely.
“Yes, I am,” he replied with a bashful smile. “I’m Leon.”
When she took off her coat, he saw how she wore a very similar black turtleneck.
“Y/N. Pleasure to meet you, Leon.” She paused, looking up from her cat eye glasses. “I think we might be late!,” she added urgently.  He followed her onto the workshop, sitting beside her in the back row of chairs. His interest in y/n distracted him from the enormity of the theatre and his growing stage fright.
The professor explained the warm up exercises, but Leon learned nothing. He was watching y/n chew on her fountain pen. They started with a series of vocalizations and deep breathing. Leon watched y/n’s chest and diaphragm expand and contract with each concentrated breath. Once she caught him staring, he would look up to the rafters or down at his shoes, thoughtfully scratching his beard. She smiled at his lack of subtlety.
The professor distributed scenes to the students at random. Leon looked down at his script. His stage fright resurfaced as he read the words at the top of the page. ‘Macbeth: Act 4, Scene 1.’ The ‘Second Witch’ part had been highlighted.
The students were given fifteen minutes to rehearse their scenes wherein Leon mumbled and stumbled through his lines. The actresses playing the other witches were good-natured about it, but everyone knew the scene would be shit.
He broke into a sweat as the actors were called to the stage.  His mind was nothing but static at that point.  He watched the actresses move their lips, hunched in crone-like fashion and wiggling their fingers over an imaginary cauldron.  They chanted in unison:
“Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.”
When they stopped, everyone looked at Leon.  This was his line.  The last ‘bubble’ just hung in the air while the silence took over.  He gave it his best effort, though his voice was weak and his hands were shaking.
“Fillet of a fanny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of twat and tongue of hog.”
His hands shook with such force that he dropped the script.
“Oh, bollocks - It’s gone in the soup!”  He improvised rolling up his sleeve and fishing it out of the hot cauldron.
“Leon...Leon!”  It took the professor several tries to rouse him from his panic.  “That’s enough, Leon. We mustn't paraphrase Shakespeare.”  The students giggled.   The professor pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.  “Let’s try something else, shall we?”
He turned and pulled two scripts from his briefcase, handing one to Leon.  “We need something to build your confidence.  You will play Stanley Kawalski.  He’s a proud, domineering brute.” He beat his chest for emphasis.  “And you...y/n, you will play Blanche, the jealous, simmering sexpot,” he said, casually handing her the other script.
“A Streetcar Named Desire?  Wasn’t that a film with Marlon Brando?,” Leon muttered nervously.
The professor put a hand on each of their backs.  “I’ll read the stage directions.  Don’t think, just use your instincts.”
Leon read the lines with as much bravado as he could muster. “I've been on to you from the start! Not once did you pull any wool over this boy's eyes! You come in here and sprinkle the place with powder and spray perfume and cover the light bulb with a paper lantern, and lo and behold the place has turned into Egypt and you are the Queen of the Nile! Sitting on your throne and swilling down my liquor! I say--Ha!--Ha! Do you hear me? Ha--Ha--ha!”
“Okay, now he walks into the bedroom.”
Y/N cried out a warning as Blanche, “Don't come in here!”
“That was quite good,” Leon whispered, eliciting a small smile.
“Stanley goes into the bathroom and Blanche picks up the phone.”
Blanche: “Operator, operator! Give me long-distance, please.... I want to get in touch with Mr. Shep Huntleigh of Dallas. He's so well-known he doesn't require any address. Just ask anybody who--Wait! I--No, I couldn't find it right now.... Please understand, I--No! No, wait! ... One moment! Someone is--Nothing! Hold on, please!”
Leon grinned out of character, so impressed by y/n’s acting.
“Blanch is going mad now, pacing back and forth.”
Blanche: “Operator! Operator! Never mind long-distance. Get Western Union. There isn't time to be--Western--Western Union!  Western Union? Yes! I--want to--Take down this message! "In desperate, desperate circumstances! Help me! Caught in a trap. Caught in--" Oh!
Stanley: “You left th' phone off th' hook.”
“Now he blocks her from the door.”
Blanche: “Let me--let me get by you!”
Stanley: “Get by me! Sure. Go ahead”
“But he only gives her an inch.”
Blanche: “You--you stand over there!”
Stanley: “You got plenty of room to walk by me now.”
Blanche: “Not with you there! But I've got to get out somehow!”
Stanley: “You think I'll interfere with you? Ha-ha!”
Blanche: “I warn you, don't, I'm in danger!”
“He takes another step and she smashes the bottle breaking it.”
Stanley: “What did you do that for?”
Blanche: “So I could twist the broken end in your face!”
Stanley: “I bet you would do that!”
Blanch: “I would! I will if you--”
Leon’s reading becomes increasingly stilted and awkward.  “Oh! So you want some rough-house! All right, let's have some rough-house!”
“He springs out at her.  She swipes the bottle at him, but he captures her wrist and overpowers her.”
The professor read the stage directions, but Leon wouldn’t move, delivering the next bit of dialogue with a sigh of regret.  “Tiger--tiger! Drop the bottle top! Drop it! We've had this date with each other from the beginning!”
“Overpower her, Leon.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t like to do that, Professor.”
“It’s acting, Leon...It’s pretend.”
“I don’t even want to pretend.  Stanley is horrid and I hate him.”
The professor rolled his eyes, disregarding Leon’s protest. Then he clapped his hands together addressing the other students.  “Okay, everybody, that’s it for today.  I want you off book by next week.”
The students started getting up from their chairs and shuffling their things.  Y/N approached Leon who was staring down at the stage with his arms folded.  He looked up anxiously as she leaned in to whisper in his ear.  Meet me in the ladies room in five minutes.
Leon was at first confused, then his eyes widened with surprise when he realized what she meant.  She laughed and swaggered away.
Y/N spotted Leon lurking by the door.  “Leon, that was three minutes, at most.  Luckily everybody left after class.  At least I think so,” she added with a cheeky grin.  “Come here.”  She grabbed his hand and pulled him inside the cubicle.  Do you want to shag?
Leon nodded his head. “Y-yes.”
“I liked what you did today,” she said, removing her knickers.  “It was very chivalrous of you.”
Y/N tilted her head and kissed him.  He inhaled at the contact of her lips.
She pulled back and looked him in his glistening green eyes.  “Go on then.”
“What ‘d ya mean?
“Fuck me, Leon.”
“Shouldn’t I, you know...foreplay?”
“Leon, I’m already soaked.  Get your cock out and fuck me.”
Leon quickly unbuckled his belt and let his trousers fall down around his ankles.  She turned with her back against the partition wall and one foot on the toilet seat.  He lifted her tartan skirt and drove up inside her, groaning at the tight wet sensation. She inhaled through her teeth, clutching  at his shoulders, then wrapping her arms around his neck.  Leon closed the gap between them, his pelvic bone at the base of his cock creating a throbbing pressure on her clit as he thrust.  The hard bouncing rhythm made her glasses fall askew.  She whimpered and moaned as the orgasm pulsed through her, overwhelming her senses.
“Was that?...Did you?”
Her eyelids drooped peacefully.  “Um hm.”
He smiled, encouraged and continued thrusting.  His eyes shined like Christmas trees. She pet his curls, watching the pleasure wash over his face.
“I’m gonna…”
“Don’t stop, sweetie.”
He plowed into her, releasing his warm seed with a hearty grunt.
“Bravo, Leon,” she smirked.
“Camping? I don’t think that’s such a good idea...”
“Please, you’re my best friend, you have to go with me.”
Jungkook’s doe eyes stared up at you through his long hair that was falling across his face. You shook your head, sighing as you gave in. Of course you would give in. Being hopelessly in love with your best friend would do that to you.
“Fine...”
“Ah, you’re the best Y/n!” Jungkook punched his hands up to the sky before he pulled out his phone. You couldn’t help but stare at the flexing muscles and the way the veins popped out as his fingers rapidly flew across the screen of his phone. “I’m texting the guys. We have fireworks, and oh! Those pretty sparklers you like, and the view from the campsite of the city firework show is perfect. We’re planning to go to the camping site tomorrow morning and don’t worry; Yoongi hyung made sure to grab the beer.”
You roll your eyes at the thought of the yellow yeasty piss, and yell out after Jungkook walks out of your bedroom in your shared apartment.
“You owe me liquor at least!”
--
Camping. You were not necessarily against camping, on the contrary, you had always wanted to do it. But you had been trying for months now to reign in your feelings for your best friend. And yes, you know that’s hard to do when you live with him, but living alone? In this economy? You weren’t stupid.
So here you were, climbing out of the Hyundai Palisade Jin had driven you, Jungkook, Namjoon up to the campsite in, luggage in the back and in the trunk of the other car that held Hobi, Yoongi, Jimin, and Taehyung. You took in the area, noticing the dense woods surrounding the clearing that looked like it was often used by campers. That made you feel a little safer about wild animals and such. Not that you were so far out in the wilderness. You were only about a 20 minute drive from the city, up a small incline that barely could be considered a mountain. It was more like a hill. But the elevation in this campground was definitely higher than the city, and you could see the edge that led to a drop where the river cut through, revealing the city on the other side of the rushing water. The fireworks were always done at the river, and from here, you had an uninterrupted view. It really was perfect.
Going over to the hatchback, you start helping Jungkook unload the camping supplies and duffel bags piled in the back; the others grabbing the items and dispersing them to their areas for set up. You feel your cheeks warm when your hands collide reaching for the same bag, your hand grasping his before you pull away, laughing a quick apology as you avoid his gaze. Those deep brown eyes full of galaxies have the power to drown you if you’re not careful.
“How many tents are there?” you ask, trying to figure out the sleeping arrangements. You figure you should have asked yesterday, but you forgot, too worried about being in a secluded camping site with plenty of alcohol, the love of your life who didn’t know it, and your 6 friends who definitely did.
“Um.. like 3 I think.” Jin answered, rifling through the cooler for a bottle of water.
“So, what game are we doing to see who’s sleeping with snore-machine Namjoon?” Jimin giggles at your question, covering his mouth and unsuccessfully disguising it as a cough when Namjoon turns his eyes on him in a glare.
“Ah, well, we drew straws already, so it’s actually already decided.” Yoongi answered, deadpan. “Sorry smalls, but you and Jungkook are with Namjoon.”
You dramatically fall to your knees, cursing the sky above you with shaking fists.
“Nooooooooo!”
The guys all begin to laugh, except Namjoon who walks over and flicks your forehead as you yell with your eyes closed.
Everyone gets back to setting up the campsite, and you rub your forehead before stealing Jin’s water bottle to ice your hurt head.
--
“Koo, can you and Sweet cheeks go gather some fire kindling?” Hobi was stoking the fire, shooting daggers at Taehyung. Tae had forgotten to grab the bag with the extra kindling sticks, and making smores over a lighter flame would not work. You didn’t really care for smores; it was the 4th of July, hot as fuck outside, and you were not a fan of being even hotter with a full bonfire raging. You look up from where you and Jungkook were laying on an inflated air mattress you had yet to move into your tent as he played animal crossing on his switch, a little upset that you had finally worked up the courage to lay your head on Jungkook’s chest so you could watch him play and not even 5 minutes later your comfy position was ruined.
Jungkook let out a sigh, the air sending a shiver down your spine at the proximity of him.
“I guess, hyung. And only I can call her Sweet cheeks,” he replies before looking over at you. “Come on sweet cheeks, let’s go.”
Jungkook set his switch down and once standing offered you his hand to pull you up. You grasped it, enjoying the way his large and warm hand engulfed your own smaller one, pouting once he let it go to head off into the woods. You saw him check his watch, mumbling something like ‘3:53 in the afternoon do we really need a fire now?’ as you trailed behind him.
--
“Jungkook, are there like… snakes or spiders in here?”
Jungkook smirks at you, fully aware of your fear of wild snakes and spiders.
“You’ll be okay. The closest hospital is like… maybe 20 minutes away. No worries.”
“Not comforting JK, not at all.” You cut your eyes at him, then give his shoulder a shove as he steps over a fallen log. He laughs, noting the way your shove did nothing to throw him off balance.
Without thinking, Jungkook retaliates by pushing your shoulder back, only this time, you trip, stumbling over the same fallen tree that he had easily cleared, and in your attempt to catch yourself, you overcorrect, and feel the pain of your ankle rolling.
“Ahhhhh!”
“Fuck! I’m sorry!”
You sat on the damp grass, hands gripping the grass in an attempt to quell the pain. Jungkook was crouched next to you, low-key panicking as he saw your eyes tear up.
“Oh god, fuck! I’m so sorry Y/n!” He was staring wide eyed at your ankle, which no longer looked like your ankle. You were deformed.
“You fucking… strong ass… you giant bunny!” You yell out, tearful.
Jungkook tugs at his hair, his eyes wide and scared. It’s very clear to the both of you that you cannot bear weight on this foot, as it looks like it’s broken to you.
“I’ll piggyback you!” He turns quickly, still crouched and you sniffle turning on your bottom as you adjust to cling like a koala to him. The movements cause your ankle to bounce, pain running through it and more tears fall.
--
“Ahh, it hurts Koo,” you tuck your face into his neck as he tries his best to walk smoothly but quickly back towards the campsite. Unfortunately, you had nothing to hold your ankle still from moving with each step Jungkook took, so every few seconds you felt the sharp pain shoot up your leg. It had swollen, you could feel the way your shoe was constricting it, but it was best not to do anything until it was looked at.
“I’m gonna take you to the ER. Seriously, it’s really like 20 minutes away. God, I can’t believe I hurt you, sweet cheeks.”
You shake your head, still sniffling as you tightened your hold across his chest. His chest was so firm, muscles tight from the way he was holding his arms to secure you to his back. You couldn’t deny that getting hurt didn’t put you in a great position, straddling his back, his hands spread to grip you firmly under your thighs; the pain didn’t prevent you from thinking indecent thoughts of him holding your thighs in a different angle. Preferably while thrusting deep inside you.
“Sweet cheeks? Do you forgive me?” Jungkook turned his head to try and see you better; you blink your eyes as you freeze. His lips were so close, you could just lean in and kiss him. Mere centimeters separated your lips from his… Just one kiss, gentle and fleeting, it was all you wanted… You leaned closer to him.
“Jungkook-ah! What did you do to her?”
Namjoon ran over, his hands grasping your face as he smoothed your loose strands of hair back away from your face. You can see his eyebrows knit together, worry over your red rimmed eyes and clearly dried tears tracks on your cheeks.
“I’m okay Joonie, I rolled my ankle.” You smile, trying to calm him so that the others don’t react the same way, but it was too late.
“Yah! You were supposed to get wood, not trip over it!” Hobi yelled from where he was kneeling by the fire pit.
“I’m taking her to the ER. I think it might be broken. Yoongi, can I get the keys?” Yoongi nods, walking over to the car with you both to open up the door so you can be seated.
Jungkook leans down, bending his knees so that you can slide off of his back and scoot into the passenger seat. A part of you is sad that you are no longer holding onto him, while another part is chiding you for using this to your advantage to cuddle into him on the trek through the woods.
“I can take Smalls if you want, Guk-ah,” Yoongi offers, but Jungkook shakes his head, producing his hand for the keys.
“No, hyung, I did this. I’ll take her. If there’s anything we forgot to pack, text me and we’ll stop and get it before we come back up. No more hunting for firewood for this one.”
Jungkook climbs into the car and soon you’re traveling down the dirt path back out of the woods. Jungkook reaches over, his free hand grasping yours. You look up at him, eyes wide at the gesture.
“Y/n, I really am sorry. We’ll get you patched up soon.” His thumb lightly traces circles into the top of your hand, and you continue to watch him long after his gaze has returned to the road; attention to the highway he’s speeding down to get you to the emergency room.
--
“Ankle dislocation?!” You and Jungkook both have your mouths open, shocked to hear the diagnosis. It sounded way worse than a fracture or broken foot. In fact, the doctor said it hurt worse than one too.
“Yes, your boyfriend here did the right thing bringing you in. Dislocation can be dangerous if it’s left out of place for too long, causing long lasting nerve damage. To avoid this, we’ll be skipping the X-Rays. It’s clearly popped out of place, so we’ll just pop it back in!”
You heard some of what the doctor said, but really, when she called Jungkook your boyfriend, most of your body just malfunctioned. Especially when he didn’t correct her. Granted, he still was in shock, as were you, but then you saw the very buff nurse walk in wheeling what looked like an oxygen tank, except it was blue, and focused on that.
“Now, Y/n, we’re gonna give you some Nitrous Oxide, it will help with the discomfort as we reduce the dislocation,” she turned to face Jungkook, “Boyfriend, come over here and hold her hand. After we finish, we’ll let her rest while we get a boot and crutches for her as well as the discharge papers, okay?”
Jungkook nods, eyes still wide in shock that a simple push had led to this.
“I need you to monitor her, okay? 5 minutes after, take the mask off her. While we get everything ready, she’ll be a little loopy from the N2O… it’s laughing gas, but after another 5 minutes, it should pass.”
You had already had the male nurse place the mask on your face when you heard the doctor say laughing gas. It was too late to decline it; you could feel yourself relaxing into a stupor of content, the pain gone.
Jungkook’s hand felt nice. So warm, you thought. And attached to such a beautiful man. Wow. You wince a little when the orthopedic doctor and male nurse pop your ankle back into place, but once it’s over, you sigh as you sink into the pillow.
“Jungkooooo..” you turn your eyes to him, admiring the way his hair frames his face. God, you love that man.
“What’s up, Sweet cheeks?”
“Koo… you’re so pretty.”
He blushes, ears turning bright red along with his cheeks.
“Sweet cheeks, hush. Just relax.”
“No seriously, Koo… you’re beautiful. I love you.”
“I love you too, Y/n,  you're my best friend.”
“No Koo,  I like, really love you.  Like I want to have your babies love you.”  You turn your head to the side, cheek resting on the pillow as you gaze longingly at your best friend. He was staring at you now no longer in shock from the ankle injury; it now seemed he was dealing with disbelief at the words you were saying.
“God Koo, I've loved you for so long,” you sigh as you reach out to grasp his hand; his hand feels clammy but you're too high on laughing gas to notice. You have no way of knowing that his heart is beating fast in his chest, so fast he feels like it might pump its way straight out of his body.
“You love me? Not, like, as a best friend, but more?”
“Practically since the day we met, remember that day, Koo?  In art class?”
“How could I forget?” Jungkook replies softly.
You giggle, remembering being paired to work together on the 8th grade art project, and you were so in love with the bunny-smile-having desk mate, yet so afraid to befriend him. That project had gotten you both a good grade, but had changed the course of your life. You found your best friend in that bunny smile, the mole beneath his bottom lip, the scratch in his cheek.
Jungkook stands, moving to you and grasps the mask that is over your nose.
“Time to take this off, sweet cheeks. 5 minutes are up.”
As he leans over and removes the mask from your face, you can’t help yourself. You grasp his shirt and pull yourself up to meet his lips with your own.
Magic. Fireworks. His lips are softer than you imagined, soft as the Cloud 9 you are floating on as you slot your top lip between his lips, pulling his plump bottom lip into your mouth. The kiss feels perfect, and you pull away after a few seconds, falling back onto the pillow behind you.
The nitrous oxide has made you feel relaxed and calm, and you close your eyes, content. You miss the way he stands there watching you, having felt his whole world shift, coming into focus with you at the center.
3 hours later from leaving the campsite and Jungkook has you in the car, fitted with a boot and crutches, a prescription for painkillers in your lap that had just finished getting filled at the pharmacy, and some kindling. You had a slight headache, the side effects of the Nitrous Oxide, as well as impaired memory and increased sleepiness. You had been drifting in and out of sleep since you had been given a pain killer when the doctor arrived back to give you the boot and crutches, discharge papers and the prescription to fill. The ER was busy as you were wheeled out of it by Jungkook, who headed towards the pharmacy. You could see people in all states of injury, sporting small burns, a few broken bones here and there, and the wildest was the man with a barbecue fork in his hand wrapped in a kitchen towel. The fourth of July was one of the busiest days for Emergency Rooms, and this year appeared to be no different.
You barely registered when Jungkook parked the car and turned off the engine, peacefully napping with your head against the cool glass of the window. He looked over at you after he unbuckled his seatbelt, reaching out to sweep your hair back away from your face.
“Sweet cheeks,” he said softly, attempting to wake you. “Hey, we’re back at the campsite.”
“Hmm?” You turn your head slowly opening your eyes as you take in his proximity, his face inches from yours as his hand continues to remain on your skin; palm to your cheek as his thumb gently strokes your cheek.
“We’re back Y/n, let’s get you in our tent so you can rest.”
“Okay,” you mumble, reaching sleepily to undo your seatbelt and open your door. Jungkook pulls away and rushes to get around the other side of the car to help you. The campsite was empty, but he could see some of the boys fishing down by the river and hear the laughter of the others nearby. Normally Jungkook would be wanting to join them, but today, he didn’t want to leave your side. He carried you from the car to your now tent, the air mattress that had previously been outside was placed inside next to Namjoon’s, and he knelt down to lay you on it. You were surprised to feel him slide in next to you, grabbing the thin sheet to put over you both. He wrapped an arm tentatively around your waist and pulled your back to his chest, and you fell asleep like that, feeling safe in his arms.
--
“Hey, guys, the fireworks are gonna start soon!” Jimin’s excited voice pierced through your sleep, waking you up from your nap. You try and roll over, but are pinned down by the heavy arm of your favorite person.
“Jungkook! Get up! Fireworks time!” You’re loud, and he finally wakes, groggy sleep eyes as he deciphers the words you are saying to him. Jimin runs off, and you can hear the boys laughing as the sounds of sparklers and poppers go off, the patter of their feet as they chase each other making you want to go out and join them.
It takes you a few minutes to get situated and meet everyone over by the edge to watch the fireworks, but Jungkook doesn’t leave your side and you are grateful. He wraps his arm around your shoulder, pulling you close so you can lean on him, and he’s so buddy staring down at you that he jumps when the first fireworks go off.
“It’s so pretty, Koo, look!” you point out an exceptionally bright purple shimmering firework in the sky.
“Yea, it is.” You don’t notice at first that he’s not looking at the sky; he’s looking at you.
When you do notice, you turn away from the light show and meet his eyes, the fireworks reflecting in them.
“Koo?”
“I love you, Y/n.”
You freeze, muscles tense as you stare at him, baffled.
“Wha--?”
“You… I know how you feel about me. And I wanted to tell you I feel the same. I love you. Like in a ‘kiss you under the fireworks, someday have my babies’ kind of way.”
Your face is warm, heat rising to the surface of your skin as you attempt to duck your head, but his free hand gently grasps your chin while the one around your shoulders guides your body to face him and rests on your back.
“Can I?”
You don’t know what he’s asking, but you could never say no to him. Not when his floofy hair was framing his face, his doe eyes were pleading with you, and he was so close…
You nod, and a breath later his lips are on yours.
The sounds of the fireworks don’t drown out the whooping and whistling you hear from your friends as they witness the blossoming of a relationship they all knew was inevitable. But all you hear is your heartbeat, pulsing in time with Jungkook’s as he wraps both arms around you and pulls you closer to him.
Pulling back from him, you have a weird sense of deja vu, and tell him as much.
Smirking, he looks down into your eyes and reveals that this indeed was not your first kiss.
“When did we? How?”
“In the hospital. You grabbed my shirt and pulled me to you for a kiss when I removed your laughing gas mask.”
Your brain is able to recall some of what Jungkook is saying, but before you can be embarrassed he leans down your ear, his lips grazing the outer edge as he whispers.
“Sweet cheeks, don’t worry, I’m glad you did it.” He kissed the tender spot below your ear. “It felt right. I think I’ve always known it’s you… I just didn’t know how to approach it.” Another kiss to your jawline. “But I love you. And now you’re mine.”
His eyes sparkled as the last of the fireworks burst in the air.
“I’m yours.”
